Die Maintenance Technician
Job Title: Tool and Die Machinist
Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Tool and Die Machinist to plan the setup and operation of various machine shop tools, considering material types, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds. The role involves heat-treating and welding parts, determining specifications for inspection, fitting and assembling jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies, and setting up and operating machine tools to produce parts to specifications.

ResponsibilitiesPlan the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools.Consider types of material, tolerances, cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.Heat-treat and weld parts as required.Determine specifications for inspection using precision measuring and gauging tools.Perform required inspections before, during, and after machining or production.Fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies.Set up, run, and test dies to produce products to specifications.Trace die difficulties to their source and correct them.Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.Verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.Study blueprints of dies, product die models, templates, and prototype parts.Visualize shape, mechanical structure, and operation of dies.Compute dimensions and plan machining, layout, and assembly operations.Measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining.Use a crane to lift machined parts and position them for assembly.Smooth flat and contoured surfaces and fit die parts to each other.Verify dimensions, clearances, and alignment of parts in dies.Dowel and bolt die parts together.Work to tolerances as close as zero.Dismantle dies and repair or replace parts.Use hand tools of the trade.Assist in punch press overhaul if necessary.Read and interpret blueprints or work from verbal or written instructions.Perform other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsExperience in all die-making disciplines including mathematics, machine tool application, and heat treating applications.Minimum of 3 years’ industrial tool & die experience.Knowledge of progressive die design and manufacturing for close tolerance and high strength materials applications.Ability to fit and assemble jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies.Ability to trace die difficulties to their source and correct them.Ability to set up, run, and test dies to produce products to specifications.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh school graduate or equivalent required.Vocational certificate desirable.Why Work Here?

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Sterling, Kentucky.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00
