What You’ll do

The purpose of the Transportation Mechanic I is to maintain trailer equipment operation by completing inspections, determining preventive maintenance requirements, determining truck deficiencies, and keeping records.

 

Ensures equipment availability by completing preventative maintenance schedules and installing component and part upgrades.Complete dry service on equipment including lubrication of components, fluid checks, and inspection of all hoses and belts.Complete wet service on equipment including refilling fluids (engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, windshield fluid, etc.)Inspect, service, and replace trailer parts, including tire checks.Maintain hub and axles and adjust or replace when required.Service and repair the brake, electrical, and hydraulic system.Ensure that equipment meets the U.S. Department of Transportation road safety requirements.Compile inspection reports, document repairs, and report all findings to management.Perform more extensive repairs to equipment with the supervision of an II or III TechHave a sound understanding of repair tools, equipment, and testing machinery.Ensure housekeeping standards are met within the shop.May be required to cross-train and perform other duties.

Essential Qualities for Success

 

Intermediate to advanced mechanical skills encompassing small engine, diesel, and hydraulic systems diagnostics and repairs.Proficiency with Microsoft Office software Proficiency in navigating and utilizing in-store technology resources, including CRM software, diagnostic programs, barcode scanning systems, and wireless handheld devices.Ability to work independently without frequent supervision.Physical Requirements  Ability to maintain a seated or standing position for extended durations.Ability to lift, push, and/or pull a minimum of 30 pounds repetitively and 31-50 pounds intermittently.Able to navigate and access all facilities.Skill to effectively communicate verbally with others, both in-person and via electronic devices.Close vision for computer-related activities.
