We are seeking a Diet Clerk VI to provide basic nutrition services to the patient including ensuring patient meal selections are in accordance with the diet order, and problem resolution to ensure optimal customer service. To provide quality control for patient meals including oversight of the patient meal assembly, processing of diet requisitions and tray changes, input of data into CBORD system, and printing reports to ensure optimal patient meal service.
This is a casual position working 8 hours weekly. Shifts vary from 6:00am-2:30pm, 11:00am-7:30pm and requires working a weekend and holiday rotation.
Principal duties and responsibilities:Demonstrates a patient/customer "comes first" attitude. Greets patients, visitors, customers, and co-workers with a smile and pleasant manner. Demonstrates quality customer service. Practices service recovery.
Demonstrates understanding and executes CCHS Core Values –excellence and love. Interacts with patients, families, co-workers, management, physicians, and other department staff in a compassionate manner, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity, patience, and mutual respect.
Communicates pertinent and vital information and feedback to co-workers and supervisors. Follows written and verbal instructions as directed. Assumes an active role to keep informed about changes in policies, procedures and equipment, completes mandatory education, attends and participates at meetings, and is willing to be taught, coached, and/or mentored by others.
Demonstrates ability to comply with CCHS safety requirements, State Board of Health requirements, and regulatory agency requirements. Adheres to Christiana Care Health System and department policies and procedures.
Oversees patient meal selections, ensuring choices are in accordance with the diet order and desired nutritional goals. Works with the dietitian to improve patient's nutritional status.
Interviews patients to determine meal satisfaction, nutritional problems and educational needs and provides the appropriate service recovery. Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide nutritional care appropriate to age specific groups.
Develops, conducts, and reports on performance improvement activities. Conducts patient satisfaction surveys and follows up on patient comments and complaints to resolve food/clinical concerns. Evaluates and updates meal report for accuracy. Communicates with nursing to clarify questionable diet orders.
Oversees' delivery of patient tube feeding formulas and follows up on patient tolerance to supplements.
Monitors the daily work assignments of subordinates according to established section workflows and adjusts as necessary.
Demonstrates understanding and follows all Food and Nutrition policies and procedures as they relate to menu process, tray assembly, kitchen operations, and CBORD applications. Works with the supervisor to improve patient satisfaction.
Monitors meal assembly. Provides direct support during trayline and meal service to foster team approach. Documents performance related issues as needed.
Addresses menu concerns and tray line-item substitutions with appropriate nutrition staff.
Inputs requisitions for general ledger billing and provides assistance with CBORD applications and report generation.
Accurately processes inventory, orders, requisitions, and productions sheets according to established menu in the computer system.
Maintains current knowledge of state and federal regulations in relation to food handling, safety and storage.
Assists in training new diet clerks, hosts, and trayline personnel in daily operations.
Conduct self in a professional/ethical manner, maintaining patient confidentiality. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor in a timely manner, any unsafe activity, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Maintains patient confidentiality.
Education and experience requirements:High school graduate or equivalent.Completion of appropriate post secondary nutrition courses or certified dietary manager preferred.Previous food service and clerical experience in a major medical environment preferred.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:Knowledge of food and nutrition principles.
Knowledge of modified diets.
Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
Knowledge of therapeutic menu adjustments for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Ability to calculate tube feeding formulations.
Ability to utilize computer and calculator.
Ability to analyze, evaluate and communicate patient's dietary habits and their influence on patient's nutritional status.
Ability to counsel and teach basic nutritional and dietary principles to patients.
Skill in interpersonal relations and customer service.
Skill in oral and written communication.
