Position Summary:

The outpatient dietitian is responsible for providing evidence-based nutrition education and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients and families in a variety of settings, which includes, but is not limited to the following: nutrition assessment/re-assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation. The purpose of the outpatient dietitian (RD) is to assist patients through nutrition and lifestyle modifications in the prevention, delay and/or management of various diseases and/or conditions such as diabetes, weight management, cardiovascular disease, renal disease, malnutrition, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders and/or an overall healthy eating pattern. The RD will perform duties in support of and in compliance with improvement plans, JCAHO and/or ACHC, and any other licensing, accrediting or regulatory agencies.

 

Department Summary:

The Aultman Health System MEDS Clinics are ambulatory clinics that focus on improving patient care through education and chronic disease state management.

 

Qualifications:

Completion of a bachelor’s or master’s (preferred) degree granted by a US regionally accredited college or university. Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and completion of an accredited Dietetic Internship with a minimum of 1200 supervised practice hours or completion of an ACEND Coordinated Program with a minimum of 1200 supervised practice hours.

Candidates eligible for registration may be hired with the understanding that registration will be achieved within 90 days of hire.

 

Maintain registered dietitian (RD) status according to the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), which is the credentialing agency for dietitians.

 

Maintain and/or renew dietitian licensure status as required by the Medical Board of Ohio.

 

Two years of outpatient experience is preferred.

 

Skills:

Comfortable speaking to large groups and presenting. Communicate effectively. Collaborate with a variety of health professionals. Detail oriented.

 

Responsibilities & Expectations:

Provide patients and or/families with Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) by applying the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ evidence-based Nutrition Care Manual (NCM) standards of care and practice guidelines for nutrition.

 

Provide MNT documentation according to the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), which includes a nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, and the monitoring and evaluation of each patient and/or group of patients.

 

Develop methods and resources to promote dietitian services internally and within the community.

 

Function as an integral member of the clinical interdisciplinary team.

 

Develop and facilitate group classes and assist with community events related to the position.

 

Document all dietitian services in Aultman electronic medical record (EMR) per policy guidelines.

 

Bill dietitian services accurately and in a timely manner by utilizing appropriate CPT codes and ICD-10 codes via Aultman EMR per policy guidelines.

 

Collaborate with the MEDS Clinic team to optimize patient outcomes regarding diabetes management.

 

Provide cross-coverage, either in-person or via Telehealth, to all MEDS Clinics when necessary.

 

Provide dietitian support, either in-person or via Telehealth, for disease state management for Wellness Partners.

 

Develop, review and update nutrition-related educational materials, presentations and resources to meet the needs of the patients.

 

Obtain 15 continuing education units (CEUs) per year in diabetes-related education to comply with the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Education Recognition Program (ERP).

 

Precept dietetic students and provide training for newly hired clinical staff.

 

Attendance is required for scheduled department meetings and Aultman mandated meetings with the expectation of punctuality and professionalism.

 

Compliance and comprehension of the Aultman Employee Handbook.

Working Conditions:

8AM – 4:30PM Monday-Friday, or hours as required by the job and community need. Cross training in all system MEDS Clinics. Travel may be required.
