Dietician - Part Time .6 FTE
Summary:The Dietitian is a member of the healthcare team for inpatient, outpatient, and long term care. The position performs nutritional assessments to identify nutritional needs of patients/residents, recommends/implements interventions to promote optimal nutritional status and develops proper nutritional care plans. Provides expertise in the area of Nutrition to the health care team, patients/residents, Mille Lacs Health System employees and the Community. Other duties include development and approval of menu and, participate in quality improvement projects. Job Duties + The essential functions of this job are identified with an asterisk (*) at the end of the bullet point. + Completes all Dietary Consults for Acute Care by completing a nutritional assessment in the electronic medical record within the time frame specified. Provides nutrition education to patient and/or family as needed. * + Completes comprehensive nutrition assessments for residents of Long Term Care in the electronic medical record within the time frame specified. Attends care conferences as needed. * + Participates as a member of the Nutrition Risk Committee. Completes high risk charting for Long Term Care. * + Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy for Outpatients in Onamia and Isle Clinics. * + Ensures accuracy and consistency of diet and supplement orders in the electronic medical record and tray card system. * + Communicates with multidisciplinary team as needed on patient/resident care. * + Communicates with the Nutritional Services Manager to keep informed about daily food service operation and department goals. * + Participates as a member of the Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. * + Works with the multidisciplinary team to develop/maintain policies and maintain/improve quality as it relates to patient/resident food service and nutrition. * + Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement program. * + Conducts training sessions for Nutritional Services staff or any other departments as needed. * + Participates in community events as requested. + Participates in menu planning along with the Nutritional Services Manager. Reviews and approves the menu to ensure it meets all nutritional requirements for regular and therapeutic diets, including Lake Song. * + Attends professional meetings to remain informed of current practices in the field of nutrition and food service. + Reviews and updates policies related to clinical nutrition. + Must complete all Healthstream training assignments. + Serves on committees as assigned. + Responsible for employee schedules and entry into Dayforce.* + Responsible for turning in monthly audits to manager.* + Creates prep sheet and recipes.* + Monitors and develops the IDDIS program for Acute Care and Long Term Care.* + Participates in staff meetings and communication.* + Creates and makes changes to nutrition bulletin board.* Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Required Education and Experience + Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited nutrition and dietetics program and Registration by the + Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) or meets AND requirements for eligibility. + Licensed Dietitian in the state of Minnesota. + Preferred Education and Experience + Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. + Current BLS certification or obtained within 3 months of employment. + Minimum one-year experience practicing Medical Nutrition Therapy. Additional Eligibility Qualifications + Maintains continuing education credits as mandated by Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and + Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of 75 credits every 5 years. + Acquires at least 15 credits in diabetes continuing education annually. + Demonstrates professionalism when dealing with challenging situations. + Must practice good judgment, have the ability to communicate written/verbally effectively, be able to set reasonable priorities and exhibit time management. + Knowledge in assessing pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients/residents. + Knowledge of current Medical Nutrition Therapy practices for acute and chronic diseases including but not limited to diabetes, GI disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and oncology. + Knowledge of current Medical Nutrition Therapy practices for enteral and parenteral nutrition support. + Knowledge of institutional food production preferred. + Basic understanding of food service operations and regulations for Critical Access Hospitals and Long Term Care. + Expertise with computer including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point, plus electronic medical records. + Customer/Client Focus + Ethical Conduct + Flexibility + Initiative + Personal Effectiveness/Credibility + Stress Management/Composure + Teamwork Orientation + Technical Capacity Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkProfessional: This position's regular workdays are Monday through Friday with occasional weekend and holidays.
