Responsibilities
Provides individualized medical nutrition therapy to ambulatory and hospitalized patients as a part of a multidisciplinary team in a tertiary care center. Applies medical nutrition therapy standards of care to incorporate the nutrition care process: nutrition assessment/re-assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention (food and/or nutrient delivery, nutrition education, nutrition counseling and coordination of nutrition care) and nutrition monitoring/evaluation. This includes advanced/specialized nutrition care for high acuity/medically complex patients. Implements, monitors, and maintains parenteral and enteral Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) in patients that cannot meet their nutritional requirements by oral intake.
Works collaboratively with colleagues throughout the enterprise to develop MNT practice guidelines and/or protocols, curriculum, and nutrition education materials. Precepts dietetic interns; mentors and trains new staff (clinic and hospital). Collaborates with dietetic technicians and administrative support staff. Works collaboratively with providers and other allied health care staff to develop and deliver programs and services that promote both therapeutic and wellness initiatives. Researches best practice to ensure effective interventions and measures outcomes of interventions. Demonstrates effective public speaking/presentation skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Clinical Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field. Completion of Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited internship. An advanced degree in nutrition or related field is preferred. Prefer wo years of experience in clinical, hospital-based nutrition support. Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) credential required within one year of employment.
