Pay Rate:

$130,000 - $158,000 - commensurate with experience

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

This position supports International Paper’s Columbus Mill (CCF), located in Columbus, Mississippi.  CCF is a vital part of International Paper’s Global Cellulose Fibers Business.  We are a converting operation that produces specialty fibers used in the production of diapers and other absorbent personal care products.

 

The Job You Will Perform:
This position is located at the Columbus, MS Global Cellulose Fibers mill.  As one of the largest softwood pulp producers in the world, this location produces bleached softwood pulp for use in paper and specialty products such as absorbent personal care products, pharmaceuticals and photographic-based papers.  The successful candidate will be accountable for safety, environmental, reliability, and financial performance of the digester and brown stock area.  The position reports to the Business Unit Manager – Fiberline.

 

Responsibilities

Be a role model and champion for an injury-free work place and promote safety and excellence in all areas of influence. Leads efforts in key focus area including safety, production and cost efficiencies, reliability, team member engagement, and environmental, to achieve or exceed targeted performance. Lead the area to operational excellence through superior manufacturing techniques, application of ME tools and principles, total quality principles, and application of IP’s Reliability Roadmap tools. Provides leadership and resources to support engagement and a high performance work team. Ensure development and implementation of manufacturing systems; including use of sustainability tools such as Trouble/Cause/Correction (TCC) and Centerlines. Help develop, demonstratre and support an organizational culture based upon values of empowerment, high involvement, and participate work foce in a customer and quality focused organization Lead a totalm quality management process, which will asure the highest quality production and customer standards, which meet environmental requirements Manages team members in the mill as necessary to minimize downtime and maintain quality, and sets clear expectations holding team members accountable for meeting them. Participate in the development of the budget and capital plan processes for area. Lear area efforts in year-over-year cost improvement and supports the development and implementation of associated projects Leads team members in goal setting and performance management consistent with company and mill direction Coordinate daily operations between shift teams with a focus on process optimization Help prioritize daily and scheduled shutdown maintenance Champion and fullfils area specific 5s Expectations (5 minute 5S checklists replenishment of tools and supplies, 5s Audits, etc) Understand and meets internal and external customer requirements Provides leadership to approximately 35 team members and ensures that all team members are treated with respect and dignity. Responsible for ensuring the digester and brown stock area achieves production, reliability, and quality targets. Responsible for providing technical knowledge that will help resolve operational issues and provide sustainable solutions. Champion the implementation of capital projects to ensure they meet stated business objectives. Responsible for establishing a culture of deliberate improvement in the digester and brown stock area.

 

Physical Demands / Working Environment

Must be able to wear all required safety equipment. Noise levels in excess of 90 dB. Heat in excess of 100°F occasionally. Working environment is 24/7—ability to be on-call as need and/or required. Ability to work on concrete, and periodically  move equipment/tools weighing up to 50lbs

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in the pulp and paper industry preferred. Minimum of five (5) + years manufacturing experience preferred. Minimum three (3) years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Detailed knowledge of industrial safety and environmental procedures and regulations. Ability to track and measure performance utilizing standard methods/tools. Ability to collaborate with peers and work well work others. Strong commitment to reliability and the use of manufacturing excellence tools. Strong computer skills including proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
