Reporting of the Role

Overview of job
 

The purpose of this role is to produce social media and website content for Smooth Radio. You’ll focus on growing Smooth Radio’s presence across key social platforms, through the creation and optimisation of content for organic social. Strong, engaging copywriting, a deep understanding of social media, and video editing skills are essential for this role, as well as a passion for music, TV and film, and social trends.

You will be passionate about crafting engaging, on-brand digital content, that ultimately increases awareness of Smooth Radio and Global Player and drives listeners.

You’ll be part of the Smooth Digital team and will work closely with the Digital Managing Editor.

Measures of success – 

In the first few months, you would have:

Fully immersed yourself in the world of Smooth, from the music we play to the key people and themes we cover online and on social media

Created and produced highly engaging social content and website content, including both short-form and long-form video content, and written features

Gained a key understanding of how to source content for Smooth, and be confident in finding and pitching relevant stories to the Digital Managing Editor

Have a strong grasp of Smooth’s digital style and tone of voice

Built relationships with Smooth presenters and members of other key departments within Global

Shown your skills as a hard-working team player who is enthusiastic, punctual, reliable and thrives in a fast-paced working environment.

Responsibilities of the role

You’ll do everything from producing short-form video clips from guest interviews and writing SEO articles for the website, to jumping on key social trends and reacting to relevant breaking news stories. This is a fast-paced role for a creative individual with digital content skills and a strong grasp of what engages audiences on social

Drive engagement of Smooth content across all key social platforms by staying on top of the latest trends, conversations, and platform best practices

Write and publish website articles, including features, news stories and SEO pieces

Contribute to the digital output of Smooth Country, including articles and social content

Collaborate and work alongside the Digital Managing Editor to knowledge-share and contribute to a coherent content schedule which drives social engagement and increases Global Player users

Collaborate with the Digital Managing Editor on content ideas, advising on social best practice and trends

Generate ideas and produce social content with a strong focus on driving engagement, sharing and traffic. This should include multi-media content with a heavy focus on video across all platforms

Focus on the growth of Smooth’s video content, working closely with the Digital Managing Editor to ensure video is optimised for each platform.

What you will need

The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

An excellent and proven understanding of social media and creating engaging, optimised content for different platforms with a particular focus on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok

A strong eye for spotting a great story

High proficiency in using Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro

Fantastic communication skills, both written and verbal

Strong attention to detail

Skilled in writing captivating and engaging social copy

A great understanding of social analytics

Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment

Ability to work across multiple brands and campaigns, and adapt quickly to last minute changes

Experience of working in social or digital for a publisher or broadcaster

Understanding of copyright, defamation and libel laws, and familiarity with the OFCOM broadcasting code
