Overview This internship is available to an interested student that can commit to working a summer only internship. The internship would start May 27th and run through the beginning of August with a tentative end date of August 1st (this end date is subject to change). Work location of this internship will be at the JUMP Simulation and Education Center in Peoria, Il. Interested students must be willing to work during the summer in Peoria, Il as the internship will not offer the option to work remote. The student aligned to this internship will be required to travel to Cuba, IL and the surrounding communities at times for work purposes. POSITION SUMMARY: This project addresses the high diabetes burden in rural Illinois, specifically in Cuba, Illinois, where limited healthcare access, lower educational levels, and social determinants significantly impact diabetes outcomes. Using digital health tools and SDOH-informed community interventions, the program focuses on increasing health literacy and access to resources. Specialized components include SDOH/CHW activities in Cuba, targeted transportation and resource mapping. Key Objectives 1. Enhance diabetes education and health literacy in Cuba, Illinois, with a focus on community-specific SDOH factors. 2. Implement a culturally relevant, evidence-based diabetes management program. 3. Improve health outcomes, reduce diabetes-related complications, and expand community resource mapping. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Junior or senior level student currently enrolled in a college or university working towards an undergraduate degree in a healthcare related field. Other skills/knowledge: Strong interpersonal, written communication, and oral communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work on collaborative marketing or project teams and receive and act upon feedback from others.
