Job Summary/Description:

KCRG-TV9, the top-rated news station in Eastern Iowa, is seeking a Digital News Producer to lead the newsroom's coverage on the digital and streaming platforms. This person should be creative and aggressive in seeking out and catering news content for digital audiences. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding and usage of social, streaming, and digital platforms as well as a grounding in journalism. The goal is to aggressively seek out information and work with other newsroom staff to ensure immediate and engaging digital content around breaking news, severe weather, investigative reporting, and other news and information that impacts our audience. This includes writing news articles, creating graphics and videos, developing streams and podcasts, and interacting on social media.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:

* Writes AP-style news stories daily for digital platforms
* Sends breaking news and trending push alerts
* Ensures factual, grammatical, and legal accuracy online and upholds the station's established journalistic standards to avoid editorial bias
* Coaches and collaborates with reporting staff to take advantage of the presentation of their stories on the website and social media
* Has knowledge of and uses effective SEO practices
* Regularly reviews web metrics and adjusts content to optimize the display of the site to viewer interests
* Communicates effectively with producers to incorporate web and social elements into newscasts
* Posts engaging content on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
* Creates memes, videos, and graphics for social engagement
* Utilizes analytics to track trends in making daily decisions
* Live-streams events
* Plans and builds special site sections and features that highlight coverage, link platforms, and encourage user engagement
* Edits video using non-linear software

Qualifications/Requirements:

* Strong verbal/written communication skills and knowledge of AP Style required
* Ability to work well under pressure and well with a diverse group of people required
* Strong understanding of journalistic principles
* Ability to balance the demands of both long and short-term projects while meeting daily deadlines required
* College degree in journalism or related field preferred
* Proven record of digital and social media success
* Previous experience in a professional newsroom preferred
* Willingness to work flexible shifts and be on call required
