Job Description
The Digital Systems Engineer will design, test, and integrate complex digital signal processing systems. This individual will work closely with hardware and software engineers during the test and integration phases. Additionally, the engineer will provide design, documentation, implementation, and testing verification. This position reports to the Director of Engineering.
ResponsibilitiesDesign, simulate, and implement FPGA-based digital signal processing systems, such as baseband signal processing.Design FPGA-based circuit card assemblies using schematic capture.Develop hardware prototypes, debug, and test using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, logic analyzers, etc.Define and coordinate software tasks related to hardware-software interfaces within FPGA-based circuit card assemblies.Independently manage responsibilities, including software and FPGA-based development planning and task assignments per project requirements.Perform functional verification using simulation tools, synthesis, routing, and timing analysis.Evaluate the quality of design and implement necessary modifications.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Systems or Engineering.Proficiency with Xilinx FPGA design flows using both ISE and Vivado.VHDL design entry experience.Experience with the full development cycle of FPGA design, including simulation, synthesis, implementation, and timing closure.Recent Xilinx experience with 7 series devices, preferably Kintex 7.Expertise in FPGA-based real-time DSP implementation, including decimation/interpolation filters, fractional delay filters, asynchronous sample rate conversion, NCO, FFT, and waveform generation.Experience with FPGA hardware interfaces related to RF sampling and waveform generation using A/D and D/A converters.Understanding of digital signal processing hardware architectures, preferably FMC module interfacing to FPGA-based carrier card assemblies.Familiarity with high-speed PCB board layout.Additional Skills & QualificationsExcellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with project teams, management, and customers.Experience with RF system design, specifically high power and/or high-speed, time-based communication transmissions.Matlab/Simulink modeling of signal processing systems, with the ability to convert high-level models to FPGA implementations.High-level programming skills (C) and the ability to write simple software applications for FPGA test purposes in a Linux environment.Practical understanding of time synchronization standards (e.g., IEEE-1588).Verilog knowledge is a plus.Prior RF experience is desirable.
