Job Title: Digital Systems Engineer (FPGA) Job Description The Digital Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, testing, and integrating complex digital signal processing systems. This role involves close collaboration with hardware and software engineers during the testing and integration phases. Additionally, the engineer will provide design, documentation, implementation, and testing verification. This position reports to the Director of Engineering. Responsibilities + Design, simulate, and implement FPGA-based digital signal processing systems (e.g., baseband signal processing). + Design FPGA-based circuit card assemblies using schematic capture. + Develop hardware prototypes, debug, and test using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, logic analyzers, etc. + Define and coordinate software tasks related to hardware-software interfaces within FPGA-based circuit card assemblies. + Manage responsibilities independently, including software and FPGA-based development planning and task assignments per project requirements. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in Systems or Engineering. + Proficiency with Xilinx FPGA design flows using both ISE and Vivado. VHDL design entry is essential. + Experience with the full development cycle of FPGA design, including simulation, synthesis, implementation, and timing closure. + Recent Xilinx experience with 7 series devices, preferably Kintex 7. + Expertise in FPGA-based real-time DSP implementation, including decimation/interpolation filters, fractional delay filters, asynchronous sample rate conversion, NCO, FFT, and waveform generation. + Experience with FPGA hardware interfaces related to RF sampling and waveform generation using A/D and D/A converters. + Knowledge of FPGA-based high-speed memory and bus interfaces, such as PCIe and DDR3. + Strong understanding of software and hardware interaction, such as Linux host/PCIe endpoint. + Understanding of digital signal processing hardware architectures, preferably FMC module interfacing to FPGA-based carrier card assemblies. + Familiarity with high-speed PCB board layout. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with project teams, management, and customers. + Must be a citizen and able to be approved for clearance within one year. + Experience with RF system design, specifically high power and/or high-speed, time-based communication transmissions. + Matlab/Simulink modeling of signal processing systems, with the ability to convert high-level models to FPGA implementations. + High-level programming in C and the ability to write simple software applications for FPGA test purposes in a Linux environment. + Practical understanding of time synchronization standards (e.g., IEEE-1588). + Experience with Verilog is a plus. + Prior RF experience is desirable. Work Environment This role is based in an office environment, working closely with the hardware engineering team. The team consists of five members, including hardware/FPGA engineers and management. The work involves managing multiple projects concurrently with tight timelines. The engineer will be expected to perform functional verification using simulation tools, implement design synthesis, routing, and timing analysis. The role also involves making local modifications and verifying changes, with all target devices being Xilinx. Some travel may be required. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $80.00 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
