Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Digital Twin Research Scientist to work in our Data Twin Frameworks department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our or Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
The Digital Twin and Data Frameworks department leads research that advances state-of-the-art capabilities and approaches to digital threads and the integration and management of systems and data, enabling digital twin and similar technologies. The department’s accomplishments include creating the first autonomous control digital twin for a non-nuclear microreactor and the first digital twin of a nuclear reactor, to leading large data repository efforts that support wide research communities. We apply computer science, digital engineering, and AI to develop and apply technologies that will reduce risk and cost while increasing the productivity and capability of organizations, facilities, and testbeds. As a central point of integration across the Scientific Computing and AI division, we work with experts and researchers that span a variety of technical domains to enable the integration of data, models, and visualization to improve our energy and security futures.
*Responsibilities Include:*
* Apply principles, theories, and concepts to develop, deploy, and support innovative technical solutions to mobile, embedded, desktop, web-based and hosted capabilities in the support of programmatic goals.
* Apply software engineering principles, theories and concepts to complex analytical processes and information display and visualization.
* Leverage modeling and simulation to address complex problems across multiple different fields. These fields may include nuclear, chemistry, digital twins, critical infrastructure, energy delivery, and energy security applications.
* Analyze, test, modify, document, and maintain models or simulation-based systems related to scientific domains, including nuclear applications.
* Execute assigned computational analysis/modeling tasks.
* Make preliminary selections and adaptations of technical alternatives.
* Develop and review designs, requirement definitions, operations, documentation, and testing processes.
* Optimize, program, and develop software using appropriate technologies for the application (which may include MATLAB, Simulink, C/C /C#, Python, Julia, etc.).
* Continuously enhance your skills with cutting-edge technology.
* Provide consultation services to internal teams in the areas of applicable technologies, requirement definitions, operations, and testing. Deliver high quality product features exceeding client expectations.
* You will report to the department manager.
*Minimum Requirements: *
* Level 1: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics.
* Level 2: : Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics and 2 years of relevant experience, or Masters Degree in the same.
* Experience with full stack applications including relational and graph databases, containerization technologies, and JavaScript frontend frameworks is preferred.
* Experience with the Elixir programming language or Phoenix framework is preferred.
* This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

* The pay range for this position is: Level #1 $65,064.00 - $133,416.00 / Level #2 ($77,628.00 - $159,228.00. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
* TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
* Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
