PRIMARY PURPOSE
Responsible for the planning, development, execution, and monitoring of sustainability initiatives and for the promotion of environmental, social and economically sustainable practices at Parkland Health & Hospital System. Also responsible for assisting the Support Services leadership in leading a multidisciplinary team to effectively plan, organize, and manage Parkland Health's Facilities Support Services program.
MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
Must have a Bachelors degree in Sustainability, Energy Management, Healthcare Administration, Facilities Management or a related field from an accredited university. Prefer a Master's degree in a related field
Experience:
Must have eight (8) years of Sustainability and/or Facilities Business experience to include three (3) years at a manager level position.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience:
May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and experience requirements.
Certification/Registration/Licensure:
Must hold at least one current professional licensure/certification from a related association: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Certification as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) from the Association of Energy Engineers (AAE). Certification as a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) from the American Hospital Association (AHA).

Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks at once and to determine appropriate priorities, follow up on projects, and ensure progress is made. Ability to make independent interpretations and appropriate decisions that are in the best interest of the organization and are consistent with the objectives of upper-management. Demonstrate a strong financial analysis ability and proven track record of performing robust business analyses of sustainability-related projects. Demonstrate flexibility, open-mindedness, collaborative nature, and willingness to embrace ambiguity. Effective leadership skills and capable of motivating, recruiting and educating staff based on their individual needs. Effective organizational, time management and problem solving skills. Knowledge of methods and techniques as related to procurement, invoicing and financial controls. Ability to analyze data and prepare presentations for project and program activities. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities:
1. Works as a liaison and communicator between business leaders, stakeholders, end users, facilities departments, strategic planning, and other relevant teams to ensure that all Facilities Support Services and Sustainability projects are performed in a timely and high-quality manner. Serve as a primary point of contact for all key stakeholders.
2. Ensures that Parkland remains on the forefront of sustainability through management of Sustainability programs and staff. Responsible for all sustainability and energy conservation activities for the organization. This includes, but is not limited to, initiating, developing, implementing and ongoing tracking of sustainability programs.
3. Broadens the organizations scope and understanding of strategic and operational sustainability practices through education, reporting and marketing of organization-wide sustainability programs.
4. Leads the organization¿s sustainability efforts. Works directly with departments to improve sustainability programs throughout the organization.
5. Oversees the organization¿s sustainability certification programs (e.g. LEED, Parksmart, ENERGY STAR) and environmental compliance (TCEQ).
6. Integrates sustainability values and practices into the organizations strategic planning, management of resources and operations, energy management, facility planning and design, purchasing, and waste disposal practices.
7. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
8. Works closely with Facilities Support Services leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives related to departments within the division.
9. Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the division that support the mission and objectives of Parkland.
10. Acts as a resource for staff, administration, other departments, and employees. Provides reports for administrative and staff review. Researches information, delegates tasks in response to directives in a timely and appropriate manner, and demonstrates responsiveness to innovation and cross-discipline expertise.
11. Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department and division has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established.
Job Accountabilities:
1. Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, work flows, etc. for the area and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency that support the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding. 4. Develops and monitors annual budgets that ensure the department has the necessary funds to carry out the goals and objectives that have been established for the department.
5. Develops, implements, monitors, and revises annual goals and objectives for the department that support the missions and objectives of Parkland.
6. Selects, trains, schedules, motivates, supervises, and evaluates employees making recommendations for disciplinary actions up to and including termination, to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.
