Primary Role

Provides leadership and direction to American Water’s Revenue Analytics team. Key responsibilities include oversight of American Water’s revenue plans across multiple states and jurisdictions, including developing the detailed revenue budget and long-term plan, monthly forecasts, reporting and analysis of actual revenue results versus expectations, and assessments of multiple rate and regulatory matters.

Key Accountabilities Serve as the primary owner of revenue planning processes, including developing the annual budget and long-term plan, monthly forecasts, and reporting and analysis of actual results versus expectations. Maintain strong partnerships with business leaders across the company in FP&A, Accounting, Rates, Regulatory, Billing, Tariff Administration, IT, Operations, and other key groups. Timely evaluation of changes in actual versus projected trends in revenues, customer consumption, organic growth, and outcomes in regulatory proceedings.  Utilizes various forecasting techniques, including regression analysis, predictive modeling and statistics. Oversight of Enterprise planning model for revenues, including developing transparent and standardized budget support schedules and measuring/testing budget models against actual performance and refining revenue modeling capabilities, as needed. Ensure the technical analysis, reporting, and compliance requirements related to revenues are prepared timely, complete and accurate in conformance with all applicable requirements (i.e. SOX, SEC, regulatory, etc). Produce high quality financial and operational variance explanations by partnering with respective departments across the company to understand key drivers and incorporating key findings into revenue projections. Support development of the American Water Strategy and effective decision-making through financial modeling and scenario analyses related to regulated revenues. Prepare Executive/Board level presentations, reports and analysis on an ad hoc basis, acting as a trusted advisor and providing robust and meaningful recommendations to the Executive Leadership Team. Build and manage a strong team of finance professionals, through performance management, coaching, employee development and succession planning. Manage daily management activities, including process management, improvements, performance standards, department staffing needs. Knowledge/Skills Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on communication, knowledge sharing and team building. Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. Strong leadership skills, including ability to work effectively and collaborate with others at all levels throughout the organization and across functional lines to achieve business goals. Strong planning and organizational skills. Strong financial analysis and modeling skills. Advanced knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). Demonstrated experience in managing and coaching direct reports and establishing career development plans by identifying development goals, milestones and measures to achieve those goals. Preferred: Broad knowledge SAP ERP and Hyperion/Oracle Financial Planning systems. Preferred: Detailed understanding of the regulatory environment and knowledge of utility regulations. Experience/Education Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field required. Preferred: MBA, MS-Econ, CPA, CFA or advanced degree(s)/certification(s). 10 years of accounting/financial related experience required. At least 5 years' supervisory experience or equivalent required. Demonstrated experience in managing and coaching direct reports and establishing career development plans by identifying development goals, milestones and measures to achieve those goals. Technical financial knowledge, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). Preferred: prior experience in the regulated utility industry. Travel Requirements
