Position's Purpose and Essential Functions:
The job's primary mission is to support the reduction of hospital acquired infections (HAC) to promote good patient outcomes and reduce the reported HAC metric levels below national rates. The job responsibilities require the monitoring of infection control practices (ICP) in all the hospital units, auditing, teaching and sharing of best practices for staff education and general compliance.
Job Duties include:
Develop and conduct ICP surveillance activities to detect infection control hazards.Actively evaluate, recommend and report activities that will reduce infection risks in patients, employees and visitors.Consult with different departments on policies and procedures to reduce infection control risks.Areas of Knowledge and Practice:

Education
Required: Bachelor's degree in Science (Microbiology, Biology, Nursing, Public Health) from an accredited university. Preferred: A graduate possessing a Master’s Degree in Microbiology or Nursing from an accredited university.Additional Educational Background that may be eligible for consideration when possessing the required work experience include:
Master’s Degree in Public HealthBachelor’s Degree or Masters in Epidemiology.Physician Degree from an International University with valid verification from World Education Services (WES)Certifications:
Required: Certification in Infection Prevention and Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) within 12-months of hire. Preferred: Medical Technologist with certification registry from ASCP; or current Texas R.N. License valid in the State of Texas.Experience:
Required: Three (3) - five (5) years clinical experience in clinical departments, exposure to multiple clinical areas with diverse populations.Required: One (1)- three (3) years of Leadership/Management role experience.Required: Exposure to patients with a diverse mix of infections.Required: Experience with electronic medical record preferred, proficiency in Windows and Google applications, data management reporting, and analytics skills.Reporting Structure:
