Assists executives and other leaders in understanding the viability and use of appropriate operations performance enhancement methods, resources and tools. Oversees the development and application of policies, standards, benchmarks, and metrics that ensure resources or services are tailored, responsive, tracked, enhanced, deliver high value and educate executives and their colleagues on how to improve performance and solve business problems and respond to opportunities within their physician network organizations. Directs leaders to formal training and coaching programs, as needed, to educate on cost-benefit analyses, facility planning, and other operational improvement methods/tools.
Possesses and utilizes expert skills in managing physician/provider productivity, efficiency and cost management, demonstrating proficiency in the understanding of physician office/medical group performance benchmarks, e.g., compensation and production survey tools. Possesses working knowledge of CPT and RVU conventions and is skilled in the use of various tools and methodologies as well as ability to coach at all levels of Trinity Health Medical Groups to help manage to mutual agreed-upon targets.
Possesses and utilizes principles of standard operational performance analysis and improvement methods such as Six Sigma, Lean, Collaboration Team facilitation, etc. Utilizes various analytical tools such as benchmarking, simulation, forecasting, workflow queuing models, and sampling in conjunction with effective interpersonal skills to analyze operational issues. Determines and recommends improvement alternatives. Works in conjunction with staff, consultants, management and administration to design project plans, conduct studies, make recommendations and develop implementation plans for operations improvement that enhance revenue, productivity, resource utilization, clinical quality, and/or customer service.
Provides staff support to the Vice President Trinity Health Medical Groups and other THMG leadership and Trinity Health executives on system-wide performance initiatives, strategic planning, and routine RHM and operating status reviews. Provides assistance in both the analysis and implementation of initiatives specific to patient/customer service, employee engagement, quality, and community benefit ministry. Provides staff support to entities and committees as required.
Understands, maintains, clearly articulates and incorporates advanced and current subject matter knowledge of best practice methods and tools to improve results, processes, services and productivity. Facilitates best practice sharing and implementation across Trinity Health’s Medical Groups.
Oversees the maintenance of Trinity Health performance improvement reporting and communication tools that enable the transparent sharing of performance information. Develops and coordinates the implementation of performance improvement measurement, reporting and feedback systems. Serves as system administrator for performance improvement databases and instructs site-specific user administrators, creates profiles for users, coordinates upgrades, and ensures back-up and secure storage of data.
Secures resources, defines roles and responsibilities, sets direction, aligns and coordinates initiatives related to enhance operational performance or sustaining the ministry goals. May lead, direct and/or participate in the vendor selection process including identification, evaluation and selection, the development of contracts and agreements, and contract compliance for tools and services related to performance improvement initiatives.
Communicates clearly and professionally with all levels of the organization, from executives to front line staff, demonstrating an executive presence.
May oversee and manage support team, which includes responsibility for the hiring, supervision, development and evaluation of colleagues.
Prepares periodic written reports and makes presentations to executive leadership at the System Office, RHMs, Trinity Health Medical Groups and/or system-wide summits, summarizing activities, accomplishments and future recommendations.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

Medical group or health system ambulatory care/physician network experience required. Demonstrated expertise in productivity management, typical of a management engineer role. Individuals with significant senior leadership experience in clinical operations highly desirable. Master’s degree is preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of medical group operations preferred.

Demonstrated ability and skill in identifying performance gaps. Experience developing applicable statistical, financial and business plans and models. Experience with advanced computer applications for benchmarking, productivity, statistical analysis and decision support.
Must possess a clear understanding of the uniqueness of the physician practice environment within a hospital/health system. Must demonstrate proficiency in applying performance improvement techniques to medical group and health care related problems. Must possess excellent data analytical skills, as well as effective communication and human relations skills.
Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health.
Must be able to operate effectively in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONSThis position operates in a typical office environment, often in cubicles and shared space. The area is well-lit, temperature-controlled and free from hazards. Incumbent communicates frequently in person, via e-mail, teleconference or telephone, with people in a number of different locations, on a variety of issues.
Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a keyboard. Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communications.
Must be able to travel to the various Trinity Health sites as needed, which may be up to 25% of the time.
Work hours and intensity will vary, and flexibility is expected to accomplish tasks outside normal work hours.
Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities and be able to prioritize and balance the requirements of working with the System Office and Regional Health Ministries (RHMs).
