Overview This position is responsible for strategic direction and oversight of company transmission operational activities, including the energy management system, operational planning and engineering, real time monitoring and control of the system, coordination with other systems, compliance and emergency operations and restoration. Responsibilities Provides strategic direction and oversight of the company’s transmission operations, including all aspects of the system control centers and supporting engineering, facilities and technology, in a manner to ensure the integrity, safety, and reliability of the system, and the safety of all personnel. Develops and supports rigorous NERC reliability standards compliance processes and controls and coordinates NERC and SERC compliance for the Transmission line of business including leading audit preparation and other related activities. Provides oversight and direction for all aspects of the Energy Management System (EMS) and control center activities, in a manner to ensure the integrity, safety and reliability of the transmission system. Provides oversight and direction for all aspects of Outage Coordination, Operations Planning, Engineering Support and Back Office support necessary for transmission operations in a manner to ensure the integrity, safety, reliability and compliance of the transmission system. Ensures efficient and effective operation of all balancing authority activities in full compliance with relevant regulations. Ensures the development and implementation of switching and outage management procedures and processes related to the maintenance and operation of the transmission system in compliance with regulations and to ensure safety and reliability. Ensures close coordination with the Reliability Coordinator and situational awareness to protect the system from external events. Directs the development of emergency operations and restoration processes and provides testing and training on those processes including drills in coordination with other utilities and industry organizations. Leads business continuity planning for areas of responsibility. Leads development of the annual business plan, workforce plan and succession plan for areas of responsibility. Ensures implementation of the transmission capital investment and O&M plan for areas of responsibility within budget, schedule and scope while working across lines of business to meet overall company objectives. Provides direct supervision and professional development of managerial and exempt level employees within the Transmission Department, including development and implementation of strategic initiatives to broaden the technical, business and leadership acumen of the transmission management team. Ensures operations personnel remain highly trained and prepared including maintaining certifications required by regulations. Establishes staffing and physical work location models to most efficiently meet transmission system operation and maintenance goals. Participates effectively in relevant industry organizations. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor degree in Engineering Industry experience resulting in extensive knowledge of electric utility transmission and/or distribution systems services, regulations, standards, and operations. Proven leadership experience in a management role 10+ years relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ formal supervisory experience Preferred Qualifications Strong leadership, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. Extensive knowledge of industry transmission/generation systems and operations. Strong verbal and written communication skills
