Direct Support Professional - Coach
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Monitor and record progress toward established outcomes for the individuals.
· Maintain regular communication with assigned individuals' family, Service Coordinator and/or residential program.
· Assist participants to identify, form an array of options utilizing creative means of recording and documentation, how they want to spend their day.
· Assist participants in the development of individual portfolios.
· Assist participants in the scheduling and accessing of daily activities.
· Accompany participants as they navigate a variety of community experiences.
· Provide feedback and documentation of participant's response to their schedule and experiences.
· Assist the participant in the expression of newly learned skills and experiences including practicing and/or rehearsing.
· Prepare for and participate in regular planning meetings with ancillary agency and service personnel.
· Attend regular staff meetings.
· Participate and assist in all public presentations that may be in the evening or on weekends.
· Provide transportation using agency vehicles.
· Provide personal care for individuals as needed.
· Share talent with individuals in structured groups and/or individualized learning opportunities.
· This position requires a two week notice of voluntary resignation.
III. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college and experience working with adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required.
Reasoning Skills
To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: Sound decision making and judgment, interpersonal skills, planning/organizing, strategic thinking, time management and delegating. The ability to work independently in multiple settings. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports/correspondence and good communication and writing skills.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar or line graphs.
Computer Skills
Must be knowledgeable about Internet software, Microsoft Office components including Word, Office, Excel, and PowerPoint. Becomes knowledgeable and trained in the use of Therap.
Certifications, Licences, Registrations
Must possess a valid NYS driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Successful completion of behavior intervention techniques, CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration Certification, and all other required training.

· Physically able to bend/stoop, squat, push/pull, reach above/below shoulder level frequently.
· Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, walk and stand.
· Talk or hear both in person and by telephone.
· Ability to physically intervene using Agency-endorsed behavior interventions.
· Must be able to independently lift and/or transfer, push or pull up to 50 lbs. No lifting restrictions.
· Must have adequate vision, speaking and hearing ability, to be aware of, detect, and respond to needs when not in immediate vicinity.
· Ability to ambulate; reach with hands and arms.
· Ability to operate a computer and software programs.
· Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
· Use hands respectively to finger, handle, feel or operate office equipment.

VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Located in a busy, open area meeting people on a regular basis.
· Works with wheelchairs, electric/hydraulic/manual lift/ramp equipment, lifts and hook-ups, oxygen tanks, cleaning equipment, and office equipment.
· Works with household cleaning solutions.
· Possible exposure to dust, fumes, odor, loud noise and toxic or caustic chemicals.
· Moderate noise; 85-95% of work is performed indoors, 5-15% outdoors.
· Works with office equipment.
· Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times.
· Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule including overtime.
