YAI is seeking aspiring DSPs, CNAs, HHAs, and Psychology & Social Work majors, to provide life changing support on our Residential Teams throughout Brooklyn.

What is a Direct Support Professional?

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) work with people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The goal of a DSP is to help people with disabilities achieve the fullest lives possible by assisting them in areas and activities that promote self-sufficiency. DSP's work mainly consists of teaching life and job skills to people with I/DD in their individual residence, group home, or out in the community. This can include cooking, implementing non-medical health care suggestions, job coaching, home care, assisting with activities of daily living, working on goals, and transportation.

Successful DSPs demonstrate the following traits and abilities:

> Empathy > Accountability > Time management > Interpersonal skills > Effective communication > Teamwork > Patience > Detail oriented > Creativity > Problem solving

High school diploma or GED preferred. No prior experience is required to become a DSP at YAI. All job-specific training is paid and will be conducted at YAI offices or on-site at the individual programs.

Full-time, part-time, and per-diem positions are available. There are open shifts during the day and evenings from Monday-Friday or including weekends.
