Job Summary
The Director of Academic Advising, under general direction, oversees and coordinates academic advising services and programs for new and returning students at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Oversees the academic advising services and programs for new, returning and transfer students.
Develops and maintains an Advisor’s Handbook reflecting common policies and guidelines based on best practices.
Oversees advising centers to ensure they remain in conjunction with the College Deans' Offices and that each advising center serves the distinct interests and needs of its constituents appropriately.
Works collaboratively with Deans and Advisors to engage them in decision-making and foster teamwork and team building.
Coordinates advising strategies with various campus entities and programs to maximize student success and retention.
Provides professional development concerning best practices with advisors in regards to retention.
Provides academic advising services to students.
Develops, executes and assesses office policies, procedures and technology related to advising.

Minimum Requirements
Education – Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
Experience - Ten years of related experience in higher education.
Supervisory Experience – a minimum of three years supervisory experience in an academic advising environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Budget management and strategic planning.
Banner or similar proprietary systems for higher education.
Ability to:
Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong verbal and communication skills.
Licensing / Professional Certification – None.

This position generally supervises employees.

Salary: $76,000/annual
