Job Summary
The Director of Activation Engineering will play a crucial role in the strategic development and deployment of new automated facilities within Napa's supply chain network. This position will lead a team responsible for the successful activation, including permitting, build-out, commissioning, and launch of new buildings. The Director will ensure these projects align with GPC’s supply chain and operational goals to deliver optimal efficiency and productivity. This role will lead a group of Engineers based on-site for construction & startup of new operations.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers focused on the activation of new automated facilities.
Provide strategic direction and oversight for all project phases, from initial concept through commissioning and handover.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
Work closely with Real Estate professionals and Developers on properties to be activated, including coordination of tenant improvements.
Lead management of key vendors, suppliers, and integration partners to successfully execute projects.
Project Activation and Execution:
Oversee the planning, permitting, and execution of new building projects, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company standards.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to secure necessary resources and manage project timelines. Ensure good engineering practices utilized in project management tracking and scheduling
Ensure the seamless integration of new facilities into the existing supply chain network, minimizing disruption and maximizing efficiency.
Technical Oversight and Optimization:
Provide technical expertise and oversight for the design and implementation of automated systems within new facilities.
Ensure all engineering designs and specifications meet or exceed industry standards and best practices.
Conduct regular reviews and assessments of project performance, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments, including supply chain operations, IT, and finance, to ensure alignment of project goals and objectives.
Partner with 3PL providers, automation vendors, and other external partners to support network operations and enhance system capabilities.
Serve as a key point of contact for all project-related communications and reporting.
Strategic Planning and Budget Management:
Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Contribute to the development of long-term strategic plans for network expansion and automation.
Identify and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance project outcomes and drive operational excellence.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
8+ years of experience in supply chain engineering with a focus on automation and project management.
5+ years of experience leading large sized engineering teams ($10MM+, Greenfield projects, major retrofits)
Proven track record in leading large-scale engineering projects, including permitting, commissioning, and activation of new facilities.
Strong understanding of automation technologies, including storage systems, material handling equipment (MHE), and GTP (Goods to Person) technology.
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in engineering economics, simulation modeling, and advanced data analytics.
Experience in developing and managing project budgets and timelines.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Engineering or an MBA is preferred.
Experience with Value Stream Mapping and working in performance excellence organizations (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Proficiency in CAD software, Capacity Software and other engineering design tools.
Physical Demands / Working Environment
Workperformed in warehouse and construction environments.
Remote or based out of Atlanta, GA with a high percentage of travel required (80%) for project activation and launching new buildings.
