Job Summary - Director, Acute Health Operations, Hospitalists

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations with a matrix reporting relationship to the Grand Rapids Hospitals COO, the Director of Acute Health Operations has authority, accountability and function at the Corewell Health West delivery system level. In partnership with dyad leadership, the Director oversees hospitalist operations and hospital programs inclusive of hospital at home, transition to home, and length of stay. Oversees the operations of services with focus on meeting market growth projections, revenue and expense targets, quality of care, and patient and employee satisfaction. Ensures effective relationships with health system leadership and physicians to ensure the provision of high quality, clinically superior services. Provides overall direction, goal setting, and oversight to key strategic, clinical, and operational issues facing the hospitalist department across the region. Serves as a consultant to system leadership on major matters pertaining to policies, plans, and objectives, particularly focused on length of stay reduction. Serves as a consultant and a liaison between physician compensation teams and medical group providers regarding compensation issues.

Essential Functions - Director, Acute Health Operations, HospitalistsProgram Direction: In conjunction with clinical and operational leadership, provide high-quality administrative management of hospitalist programs including but not limited to Hospital at Home, Transition to Home, Length of Stay, and Point of Care Ultrasound. Ensure appropriate and efficient integration of these programs with other ancillary departments, including inpatient, outpatient services, care management, and mission control. Develops both teams and programs capable of supporting future growth of both individuals and the organization.

Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for service lines, ensuring strategic alignment with system goals. Identify opportunities for growth and market capture including the development of new clinical hospitalist specialty support, programs and care redesign. Facilitate coordination, collaboration and alignment with key stakeholders including, but not limited to, hospital group, medical group, regional partners, foundation, research, and education.Leadership and Direction: Provides direction and support to physicians, advanced practice providers, management, and staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency within the department, in collaboration with physician leadership. Initiates personnel actions in accordance with Corewell Health Medical Group policies and organizational philosophy. Develops a strong team who can relate effectively to physicians, the broader medical group and the health system as a whole.Physician Relations: In collaboration with Corewell Health Medical Group administration and medical staff, maintains effective physician relations by identifying and actively recruiting additional physicians and allied health providers. Stays informed of how changes in the health care environment affect physicians and their income. Ensure that a high quality of service is always provided to patients and physicians, and that all activities are in accordance with the mission, objectives, and standards of care for the SHMG and broader health system.Operational Oversight: Accountable for all financial, operational, clinical, and experiential aspects of the hospitalist program. Develops, implements, monitors and enforces system policies and procedures. Coordinates operational activities of the hospital programs, including resource and supply management, adherence to policies/procedures, and regulatory requirements. Monitor program performance and compare to national benchmarks/standards.Staff Leadership: Manage the activities of professional and support staff. Provide direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with departmental policies, organizational philosophy, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees; planning and assigning work; performance management; and team building.Compliance and Improvement: Lead quality initiatives. Monitor and assess key performance metrics, including patient experience, outcomes, cost and operational efficiency. Collaborate with quality improvement programs and ensure compliance with regulatory agency standards. Support research opportunities related to hospitalist programs. Maintain knowledge of the regulatory and legal environment. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.Foster a culture of collaboration, teamwork and engagement with a dedication to patient care and quality outcomes.

Qualifications

Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in business, health care administration or related fieldPreferred Master's Degree or equivalent in business, health care administration or related field7 years of relevant experience in health care. Required3 years of relevant experience in a leadership role and/or role leading complex projects and initiatives. Proven track record of achieving financial targets and demonstrated ability to think strategically with a thorough understanding of strategic development. Required5 years of relevant experience in working in an organization of size and complexity comparable to Corewell Health. Required
