Director, Application Platform Engineering

Job SummaryHands-on, Senior Engineering leader/Architect who will lead the Application Platform Engineering team at Raymond James. This person will lead a team of engineers in building out and evolving useful abstractions that will help accelerate developers by reducing the need to build boilerplate code and implementing commonly needed patterns and strategies. The Platform team which sits within the Enterprise Architecture org will drive efficiencies and standardization by going well beyond simply issuing guidelines and standards or simple abstractions. This team will also play a critical role to help accelerate top Enterprise initiatives and help reduce the overall Risk profile for the Enterprise.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Lead a team of Engineers in building out the Application development Platform which is composed of Java Engineers and partner with Framework teams that support C# and Python developers• Collaborate with Development Teams and Identify the patterns and strategies that the Platform team should take on and prioritize them in alignment with business needs.• Define strategic direction and develops tactical plans. Work with application and infrastructure teams to provision platform components.• Occasionally you may be asked to augment critical projects through direct involvement and hands-on contributions such as prototyping and developing critical modules.• As needed work through all aspects of solutioning from requirements, design, and build through deployment and evolution.• Translate business requirements into working foundational components for platform thus ensuring functional and non-functional aspects are met.• Effectively identify opportunities for change, implements change and introduces new concepts, procedures, policies and tools while providing a clear explanation of benefits and purpose.• Work with business stakeholders, cross functional teams and leading by example to other application development groups.
