Director, Asset Protection - Major Crimes
Job Summary

Responsible for protecting Company merchandise and assets through identification, investigation and apprehension of individuals involved in Organized Retail Crime; criminal entities including serial robbery/burglary preventing the re-circulation of stolen merchandise into Walgreens’ supply chain. Responsible for implementing mitigation strategies across all sixteen regions to prevent the loss of product based on information gleaned through investigative efforts. Responsible for investigating matters nationwide that are considered sensitive in nature and pose a direct threat to the reputation and safety of the company or its staff. Provide insight and expertise to the Government Relations team to enhance legislative efforts that impact the business.

Job ResponsibilitiesIdentifies organized retail crime actions and other threats to the business, coordinates investigations to apprehend criminals and recover merchandise. Investigates incidents which pose a direct threat to the reputation and safety of the company and or its staff. Maintains case histories of investigations and communicates to appropriate APS, Store Operations, and Corporate personnel. Consults on the return of recovered product to Walgreens’ sources; coordinates with the Inventory department and law enforcement agencies for physical inventory of recovered goods. Manages hiring, performance, development, engagement, and other talent activities to promote team effectiveness.Travels regularly providing direction, coaching, assessment of team member effectiveness, and provides feedback to ensure team member competency and relevancy. Partners with HR resources to determine talent gaps and development plans based on regular travel and assessment of impact and execution. Directs and empowers teams to achieve strategic and tactical objectives in support of goals and initiatives. Establishes team operating guidelines promoting communication, collaboration, and consistent leadership across multiple channels. Conducts high-level research, providing oversight to the work performed by their teams.Directs and participates in operations with law enforcement agents as needed; directs the prosecution of individuals involved in ORC; researches analyzes and makes recommendations concerning the APS implications on company policies, procedures and operating methods; monitors sales of all Walgreens merchandise outside of authorized locations and works with E-Commerce to control abuse of WBA website sales; conducts periodic APS inspections of drug stores and other facilities from an MC/ORC perspective. Directs and conducts detailed inquiries utilizing knowledge of various electronic systems, Asset Protection dashboard, and other methods to protect company assets.Establishes APS strategy for direct reports, and supports efforts related to Pharmacy theft, fraud and diversion to identify and protect against material losses and HIPAA violations; minimizing organizational exposure to fines and licensure issues as well as maintain public safety. Utilizes physical security strategies, research and data analysis aligned with policy development and implementation, as well as coordination of activities through the DEA, Boards of Pharmacy, District Attorneys, local task forces and other associated law enforcement agencies.Develops and maintains a cohesive working relationship with government and law enforcement agencies including, but not limited to, the U.S. Secret Service, Drug Enforcement Agency, and OSHA/EM groups. Partners with manufacturers to identify supply chain issues such as counterfeit and stolen goods; organizes and elicits support from retailers and product manufacturers to assist in ongoing federal government investigations and undercover operations conducted by agencies such as the Secret Service, FBI, US Customs, FDA, Homeland Security, DOT, DEA, IRS, National Cargo Security Council. Build coalitions with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to expand awareness of Organized Retail Crime (ORC) and monitors federal, state and local legislation that impacts MC/ORC. Organizes and coordinates APS team initiatives in affiliation with both national and local organizations such as National Retail Federation, Retail Industry Leaders Association, National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, etc. Actively participates in business continuity and recovery programs in regions and represents Walgreens at meetings, seminars and functions that support these initiatives.Collaborates at all levels of field, Support Center, and WBA leadership, as needed, concerning required compliance and audit reviews and initiatives. Engages Asset Protection teams, executes, directs and coordinates plans, programs and initiatives to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws plus regulations that have the potential for significant, negative impact on organizational profit as well as exposure to fines, litigation and licensure concerns.     About Walgreens
