WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

The Bain Career Advisory (“BCA”) is a global, collaborative team of individuals who act as trusted advisors on career strategy for current Bain employees and alumni considering their career options. The team provides expert advice and coaching on career strategy topics, as well as select introductions to other members of the prominent Bain network (e.g., other Bain employees, alumni, client hiring teams, executive recruiters). The team also partners with local office leadership, providing career-related insights and career coaching training.

BCA brings together deep experience in strategy consulting, executive search, executive coaching and career services.

 

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM 

The Americas Director of Career Support plays a key leadership role in the region, ensuring that lifecycle career support is being delivered effectively across the Americas (with personal responsibility for one or two local offices). That includes: active regional stakeholder management - delivering BCA insights and partnering on key talent initiatives, leading and developing the Americas BCA team, providing guidance and coaching to Bain employees as they explore their next career move, advising local office talent and departure teams on best practices for individualized career support and continuing to deepen the career culture in the Americas via career planning and career coaching training across tenures. The Director should be viewed by the Americas LT as a thought partner on career-related topics. And, as a result of their interaction with the BCA team member, current Bainies should feel like they have deeper knowledge of how to navigate their career path and departing Bainies should feel supported, land great roles with potential for meaningful impact, and maintain a strong affinity for Bain.

The Director will be responsible for defining and executing the global BCA strategy at the regional level.  As a senior member of the BCA team, the Director will also continue driving BCA’s strategic efforts in several key offices by providing one-on-one career guidance and coaching to Bain employees, while also serving as an advisor to the team on office engagement.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

Regional strategy & execution and stakeholder engagement - 20%

Build meaningful, trusted relationships in the region to be the voice of BCA career support with Bain’s regional leadership team and act as liaison with other teams that touch career development/talent topicsAs a member of the BCA leadership team, work to set aspirations, goals, and metrics to measure success in the Americas in alignment with the global team strategyCollaborate with key stakeholders in the region and assigned local office/s to identify career support needs, manage departure support, and embed a career cultureRegularly analyze key support metrics and departure data to monitor effectiveness of local and regional support, and work with regional and office leadership to make/execute changes based on findings

Regional team leadership – 20%

Lead and develop the three BCA Americas team members who are focused on career support (note: there are one-two team members focused on talent advisory efforts/client support who have a different reporting structure)Host weekly meetings for connection points across the full regional team (all BCA team members who sit in the region)Foster a high performing, open and fun regional team culture that spurs collaboration, energy and camaraderieProvide feedback and mentorship to advance individual team member’s impact in their local offices and identify opportunities to stretch/challenge them according to their interests (leveraging a formal PD/growth plan for at least quarterly check-ins on the topic)Help clarify and support a set of regional DEI objectives for the BCA team (led by one of the direct reports to this role)

Career coaching and departure support – 50%

Act as trusted advisor to local leadership, careers and departure teams in one-two assigned offices (includes HR, staffing, Career/Departure Partner, etc.)Provide one-on-one confidential career coaching for departing employees, as well as employees at inflection points (“career planners”) in each assigned officeLead training sessions on career planning and career coaching-related topics to help more firmly embed a career culture in assigned offices and across the regionPartner with BCA colleagues who deliver talent advisory support to keep pulse on industry job trends/climate and facilitate matching of departing employees and alumni with open roles

Regional and global collaboration – 10%

Regularly coordinate and collaborate with the BCA LT and broader BCA team as well as various other key constituents to share best practices, learnings, and help to build the Bain Career Advisory brand Lead or contribute to special topics that will further BCA’s efforts at the local, regional and/or global level (e.g. career pathing, coordinated training, evolution of the Bain value proposition, earlier targeted career support, local office BDPs, etc.)

 

ABOUT YOU

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experienceBain seeks a bright, passionate, and engaging individual who will be a highly credible and inspirational leader and career coach. This individual will be team-oriented and provide bold thinking to help stimulate an energetic approach to career culture strategy and deliver dynamic results. They will have a proven track record of effectively managing executive relationships and providing career support, with a strong preference for talent/HR, coaching, executive search/recruitment experience and/or corporate recruiting experience. A history of leading high performing teams and developing direct reports and at least 15 years of total work experience is required, with a minimum of 1-3 years of relevant coaching experience.A combination of business smarts, coaching skills and a desire to serve and assist others is core to the Bain Career Advisory. The candidate selected for this position will be a self-motivated individual who can easily function in an environment that requires developing effective relationships with Bain employees and leadership team members – and supporting others in their career journeys. Successful candidates will possess the following:Business and strategic acumen: experience working in the consulting field (either as a consultant or in a business function role) or working with career changers in the consulting space will provide the requisite business acumen needed for this position. Influencing skills: strong influencing skills and relationship development ability across all levels of the organization in order to build credibility and implement change. Powerful communication: the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in an effective, succinct and professional manner. An executive presence that commands respect with all stakeholders is required for the role. U.S. Compensation Information 

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain’s best in class benefits package (details listed below). Some local governments in the United States require a good-faith, reasonable salary range be included in job postings for open roles. The estimated annualized compensation for this role is as follows:  In New York City, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $187,000 - $224,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level In California state, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $172,000 - $224,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level In Washington state, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $172,000 - $206,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level  In Washington D.C., the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $172,000 - $206,000; placement within this range will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level For all other locations, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates for this role and will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level Annual discretionary performance bonus  This role may also be eligible for other elements of discretionary compensation4.5% 401(k) company contribution, which increases after 3 years of service and is 100% vested upon start date
