ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director, Business Continuity Management & Disaster Recovery, is responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise-wide framework for identifying, assessing, and mitigating a broad range of threats before they disrupt business operations. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the organization can monitor and manage threats and risks to availability, respond, recover, and restore effectively in line with corporate priorities. This role will leverage BCM program analytics for influencing strategic and day-to-day business decision making.
This role requires facilitation of the BCM program across MVB by working with all internal and external stakeholders. This role will report to the VP, Information Security role. The incumbent responsibilities require a strong business acumen, an understanding of the organizational priorities, and how the failure of internal and external dependencies including IT infrastructure and the supplier/third-party ecosystem would impact upon service delivery. Excellent communication, management, persuasion, and leadership skills are also important to ensure success within this role. These skills and knowledge will ensure that the BCM program is seen throughout MVB as a center of excellence for operational resilience. This is especially important for ensuring the MVB's reputation and brand, thereby contributing significantly to improved business performance and secondarily to the bottom line.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The successful BCM program leader will be able to translate strategy into measurable and effective action-oriented processes and programs and effectively link the enterprise's BCM activities to business operations and objectives. Develop strategy, plan, build, run, and manage the MVB's BCM program governance framework and manage BCM program components. Facilitate the development of the BCM program disciplines that address the response, recovery, restoration, and resilience needs of MVB as defined by Business Impact Analyses. Facilitate the development and delivery of functional testing, exercising, maintenance and ongoing improvement program of the response, recovery and restoration strategies and plans to ensure that MVB can effectively respond, manage, and recover from major disruptions as a result of a broad range of current, emerging or newly recognized threats. These threats include, but are not limited to, weather-related events, prolonged technology outages, facilities loss, pandemics, terrorist acts, criminal acts, cyberattacks, or political or social turmoil. Manage the enterprise's response, recovery, and restoration activities in the face of an actual disaster. Work across each of the internal and external organizations to ensure the success and effectiveness of the BCM program. Form strong relationships with lines of business and risk SMEs across MVB, to facilitate positive and open working relationships. Design and implement an enterprise wide BCM awareness and education program to ensure that nominated responders and business continuity plan owners are competent to carry out their roles. Ensure that all MVB personnel clearly understand their responsibilities before, during and after a business disruption. Work closely with business units, the IT department, information and physical security, and external parties to establish and regularly review key business strategies in alignment with BCM needs, including the recovery and restoration of MVB’s mission-critical business processes, personnel, data, and equipment. Use subject matter expertise and industry knowledge to provide independent oversight and credible challenge to first line activities and new business initiatives. Develop comprehensive policies and procedures and develop standards to support the BCM program throughout the organization. Assist in preparing documentation for regulatory exams and internal audits. Remain abreast of industry standards, changes and ongoing regulatory requirements and guidance.EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in business or the management of IT (IT focus not required), or a related field. BCM industry certifications — <Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP), Fellow Business Continuity Institute (FBCI), Member Business Continuity Institute (MBCI), and/or NIMS/ICS certification>. Preferred Minimum of five years' experience in successfully planning, implementing, and sustaining BCM, disaster recovery and crisis management programs. At least two years' experience in BCM/disaster recovery within a highly regulated entity or financial institution Demonstrable experience in defining and implementing risk-based standards/frameworks/regulations, <e.g., ISO 22301, NFPA 1600, FFIEC Business Continuity Management Handbook, etc.>, processes and procedures for preparing and responding to disruptions in business or IT operations Proven strategic leadership and relationship management capabilities, with experience with internal stakeholders — particularly senior and line-of-business management, as well as external parties such as law enforcement, regulators, customers, business partners and business and IT service providers Proven competence in executing large projects, on-time and within budget, with business and IT personnel Experience leading and managing high-performance multidisciplinary workgroups and teams as well as self-directed professionals to meet goals across multiple projects Experience working as a liaison with regulatory bodies, government agencies, and other compliance-oriented entities — internal and external. Perform third party BCM due diligence evaluations of partner and suppliers.Technical Skills:
A thorough understanding of the strategic importance of the alignment of BCM initiatives with an organization’s essential business and IT services. Demonstrable working knowledge of BCM, disaster recovery, crisis management, and supplier risk and contingency strategies and solutions. Broad-based knowledge of life/safety, physical security, evacuation planning and other emergency management operations. Understanding of and experience in applying DRI International (DRII) Professional Practices or Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Good Practice Guidelines, as well as industry-specific regulations and regulatory bodies. Strong leadership skills, particularly project management, influence and relationship building, and conflict identification and resolution. Success depends heavily on cooperation and commitment from every level of MVB's business, and from personnel in many different roles. Ability to assess and monitor potential threats and take action to modify the BCM program to changing business needs, IT, and environmental conditions. Ability to identify, and prioritize business risks and impacts, develop, and execute appropriate responses, make difficult operational decisions that may impact multiple MVB business operations, and monitor and report on the results of those decisions to senior management. Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with various levels of management and lines of business.
