Director, Business Development in Mobile Ecosystems

Position Summary

Position Summary
The Director of Business Development will be the face of Samsung to some of our most important mobile ecosystem partners, and source, build and manage these relationships across all categories/industries. The focus is on driving revenue, sourcing and structuring strategic partnerships for Samsung’s mobile content and services business and making sure partners are leveraging Samsung’s full platform capabilities and distribution. This includes monetizing mobile global preloads, Samsung’s app-store Galaxy Store, Samsung Internet Browser, as well as new mobile O&O services. You will need to have a deep understanding of the mobile landscape, mobile ads, app-store and other distribution/monetization platforms and evolving business models. You will also have a deep understanding of Samsung’s product roadmap in order to articulate platform value and represent product requirements to partners. This person will be partnering with Mobile Ad team in building solutions and executing upon them to drive value & revenue for Samsung user and partners as well as with Carriers/Networks in managing some of Samsung’s content & services partnerships and deal negotiations.

The ideal candidate will be hungry, proactive and passionate about closing deals, and will have exceptional relationship-building skills. The candidate will also have excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to navigate and embrace the complexities of a large organization. While managing partner relationships, the candidate will need to be able to see the big picture but remain detail oriented. The Director must be a self-starter and will need be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, take initiative, prioritize well, and work under tight timeframes. Experience working with Mobile OEMs strongly preferred.

Role and Responsibilities

Source, define and execute on new mobile app ecosystem partnerships. Canvas the mobile app ecosystem landscape and reach out to top global partners in key-industries (Social Media, Travel, Health, Productivity, e-commerce, Ride-share, AI etc) to drive new business (distribution opportunities, Galaxy Store apps, and other partnerships).Collaborate with Device Marketing team to build 360 app-distribution & marketing partnerships, inclusive of ATL + BTL marketing packages and B2B/B2C messagingCollaborate with Mobile Ad Sales organization to source and grow app partners distribution and monetization footprint across Samsung solutionsGrow existing partnerships; identify new areas of collaboration and revenue opportunities with high value partners. Activities will include: defining new partnership opportunities, developing targets and sales materials, drafting and negotiating complex distribution agreements, and relationship building.Work cross-functionally across business, product, operations, and other parts of the organization (including Korea HQ) to develop and execute business strategySupport Galaxy Ecosystem Software & Hardware key objectives.Drive thought leadership on the evolving mobile ecosystem and advocate across the organization on behalf of partners and opportunitiesInform long-term strategy of Samsung’s mobile content and services business, with focus around preload and distribution opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications

15 years of overall experience with BA/BS required, MBA preferred.8+ years of experience in deal-making with mobile OEMs, managing mobile distribution, mobile Ads monetization, Carriers/Networks with deep understanding of the Android ecosystem.Familiarity with IronSource, AppLovin, Digital Turbine and pre and postload app industryWorking experience with mobile app-stores across distribution, marketing and operationsWorking knowledge and experience on Carriers/Networks (T-mobile, AT&T, Verizon etc) marketing partnership-deal negotiations with app partnersAbility to build strong relationships both internally and externally and ultimately close deals,Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple complex assignments and projects.Excellent negotiation skills; ability to influence change and set new directions for business.Strong written, verbal communication, presentation and analytical skills required. Experience with complex, senior level negotiations; experience communicating with and presenting to C-level leadership Demonstrated ability to formulate and defend opinions regarding market and competitive direction along with associated impact on company strategySelf-motivated with ability to work in an unstructured environment. Candidates will have a strong mindset with a decisive “get it done” and “whatever it takes” mentality.

Compensation for this role, for candidates based in New York City, NY, is expected to be between $200,000 ~ $240,000.  Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
