Director, Business Development - Sole Source
Akima is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced 8(a) Business Development Executive to support its Emerging Markets Group (EMG). Reporting to the EMG Vice President of Business Development, the candidate will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and successfully converting a pipeline of 8(a) sole source opportunities that expand Akima’s emerging technology, digital automation, information technology, and related mission support services portfolio. The candidate must have demonstrable experience generating and closing new 8(a) sole source business opportunities, extensive knowledge of Federal procurement regulations and policies, robust relationships with Government and industry partner stakeholders, and a track record of proven results. Responsibilities include full opportunity lifecycle management to include identification and qualification of opportunities, development and maintenance of the opportunity pipeline, development of customer-focused solutions, development and maintenance of customer relationships, and working with executive staff to obtain opportunity pursuit approvals. Additional responsibilities include supporting the development of strong proposals and driving revenues that exceed assigned revenue targets. The ideal candidate has a working knowledge of digital automation and differentiated high-end IT solutions as well as a proven and established background selling or consulting clients on the benefits of the SBA 8(a) program and driving them towards sole source acquisition strategies. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today! **Responsibilities** + Identify and approach prospects through cold calling, networking, and market research + Identify and communicate with influencers and decision makers within the Federal Government where requirements align with EMG offerings and capabilities, specifically sole source procurement advantages + Achieve annual sales goals + Participate in industry events + Research various online resources to identify potential sales opportunities and decision maker access opportunities **Qualifications** + Must have at least 3 sole source contract wins in the last 18 month + Experience in a Systems Integrator or related Federal IT services or consulting organization + Must have 10+ years in business development/sales with at least 5 years of experience in IT sales to the Federal Government (IT services and solutions) + Demonstrable knowledge of the SBA 8(a) program and its contracting advantages + Strong contract management, negotiation, and influencing skills + An in-depth understanding of technology-based services, products, and networking + Detailed understanding of the Government contracting and acquisition processes + Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects and initiatives + Proven experience identifying and capturing sole source Federal Government contracts + Excellent and persuasive communication skills (written and oral) + Positive, proactive attitude + Ability to travel **This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Herndon, VA.** **Pay Range** (The pay range for this job level is provided as general guidance only, and is not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
