Purpose

The Center for Leadership and Ethics (CLE), operating within the McCombs School of Business, plays a key role in shaping the next generation of leaders who will change the world – in business and beyond. Our purpose is to enhance the full arc of the McCombs journey by providing meaningful co- and extra-curricular experiences that engage students in our mission to transform lives and apply our concepts beyond the classroom. The Center for Leadership and Ethics (CLE) amplifies students’ leadership development at McCombs, strengthening a wide range of capabilities that drive success across the range of industries and professional roles in which students work post-graduation.

The Director is at the helm of the daily operations and leadership of the CLE. The Director drives the CLE toward its vision and strategic goals, in collaboration with the CLE Faculty Director, while reporting to the Chair of the Rosenthal Department of Management to ensure long-term success. As the center enters its second decade, the Director will play a pivotal role in accelerating the impact on our students. This role offers the unique opportunity to reimagine and scale programming to position the center at the cutting edge of leadership development at The University of Texas.

Success in this role requires a combination of strong leadership, strategic thinking, fundraising, program management, and interpersonal skills.

Key activities include: designing and scaling high-quality co- and extra-curricular programming; supporting graduate and undergraduate management course content and delivery; planning and executing signature events, tracking and reporting student impact; and managing relationships with donors, campus leadership, alumni, students, and faculty.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Operational Leadership

Lead the CLE’s operations and initiatives, setting strategic goals and ensuring alignment with the broader mission of Texas McCombs.Develop curriculum and implement strategies to support graduate and undergraduate students’ leadership development. Partner and coordinate with academic program offices as needed.Manage the development and implementation of programs and services offered by the CLE including signature events, workshops, and mentoring/coaching sessions. Partner and coordinate with academic program offices as needed.Consistently evaluate the effectiveness of the CLE’s programs and initiatives. Establish KPIs, develop impact reports, and regularly communicate metrics to the CLE Advisory Council and key stakeholders highlighting identified progress, challenges, and successes.Develop the budget and allocate resources efficiently to support various programs and initiatives.In collaboration with the CLE Faculty Director, support and grow the research goals of the center, making it a vibrant hub for high impact scholarship that changes current leadership practices and education.

Development & External Affairs

Manage the CLE Advisory Council, identifying and developing engagement opportunities.Build a robust stakeholder pipeline by researching, prospecting, and cultivating relationships with prospective Advisory Council members, corporate partners, and donors.Collaborate with McCombs Development and External Relations teams in securing funding to advance CLE priorities and strategic goals through planned giving and endowments, sponsorships, and other gifts.Build the brand and reputation of the center, increasing awareness of its mission and impact.Support CLE staff in establishing partnerships with organizations for applied research projects.

Staff Management

Manage the CLE team. Assign and evaluate work supporting the CLE’s strategic initiatives.Identify and advocate for growth and development opportunities for staff members.

Other Duties as Assigned

Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of professional experienceExperience designing and implementing strategic initiatives in complex industries or institutions. Experience in project management, budgeting, impact tracking and reporting.Experience prioritizing efforts within multiple, ongoing projects; and independent decision-making and problem-solving.Experience with fundraising.Excellent written and oral communication skills and a proven record of accomplishment in communicating effectively to a wide variety of audiences.Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and experience interacting with multiple, high-level stakeholders (e.g., donors, campus leadership, corporate partners, advisory boards, faculty, staff, and students).

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degreePrevious experience with higher education or similar public sectors.Previous experience with design or delivery of leadership development programming or coaching.Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams.Demonstrated track record of significant fundraising and stewardship success ($1M+ gifts).

Salary Range

$100,000 - $105,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

Works in standard office conditions with repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
