The job:
Sitting within our Global Business Services team, the Director of Contract Manufacturing Engineering plays a critical role in driving Thermo Fisher’s cost-out strategy through Contract Manufacturing partnerships. This role will work closely with teams in R&D, Finance, Procurement, and Operations, ensuring that our Contract Manufacturers deliver measurable improvements in cost efficiency, quality, and scalability.
This role is office-based at our Budapest, Hungary site, with the option to work from home 1 to 2 days pw. Regular international travel will be required – up to 50% of working time, including overnight stays.
What will you do?
Lead a team through the development and deployment of a scalable engagement framework focusing on cost reduction, quality improvement, and risk managementDefine critical metrics, including total savings, number of Contract Manufacturers engaged, and return on investment timeframesDrive the execution of the existing backlog of Contract Manufacturer cost-out ideas, AVL control, make/buy decisions, and footprint/value chain opportunitiesAssess and adjust engagement in response to feedback to ensure ongoing alignment with Thermo Fisher’s operational goalsConduct quarterly reviews to assess performance, gather feedback, and identify lessons for future improvements. May include running workshops at the CM siteLead the rollout of the engagement framework to all prioritized Contract Manufacturers, with continuous refinement to improve scalability and alignmentEngage Procurement and R&D to drive strategic changes, such as advocating for tier-2 supplier adjustments or unlocking BOM items for Thermo Fisher-directed suppliersDevelop training materials to ensure consistent framework execution and standard methodologies for cost reduction
Who we are looking for:
12+ years in Contract Manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, or operations strategy roles, with a strong focus on cost reduction and value engineeringBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field; MBA or equivalent experience preferredTeam leadership including, evaluating costs, developing financial models, and measuring the value of investmentsStrong background in cost analysis, financial modeling, and return on investment trackingProven ability to develop and implement strategic frameworks across multiple business unitsOutstanding interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence cross-functional teamsExperienced in risk management, continuous improvement processes, and scalable solution deploymentHigh proficiency in building strategic partnerships with Contract Manufacturers and internal teamsAnalytical Thinking: Ability to synthesize data into actionable strategies for Contract Manufacturer engagementStrategic Vision: Capability to translate high-level strategic goals into executable plans with measurable outcomesProblem-Solving: Expertise in identifying inefficiencies and developing practical, scalable solutionsAdaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and able to respond to changing business needsHighly proficient in English (both written and spoken)What’s in it for you:
