Position Purpose
The Director, Controller role is based in our Minneapolis headquarters office and is responsible for managing accounting and financial reporting functions for Sleep Number. The Director, Controller helps establish the strategic direction for the accounting and control function.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for setting the pace and standard for the effectiveness, timeliness, efficiency and accuracy of our financial controls and external reporting mechanismsSupport the Company’s compliance with GAAP and assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the Company’s internal controlsAssist in accurately closing the Company’s books on a monthly basisProvide technical support in connection with all external filings with investors and the SECCoordinate the activities of external auditors. Manage the external audit planning and compliance responsibilities throughout the yearEnsure technical accounting updates/developments are effectively implementedTake a leadership role in the development of strategies and new initiatives that enhance the Finance team’s capabilitiesTake on special projects as assign by senior management (including analyzing potential acquisitions, capital structure changes and other complex accounting/financial matters)Coach, motivate and engage team members. Execute talent management strategies in areas such as retention, performance management and team member developmentPosition Requirements
Four-year degree in accounting with a strong knowledge of GAAPCPA required10 plus years’ experience in accounting, including two plus years in public accounting.Advanced quantitative, analytical and Excel skills are required, as well as strong attention to detail and adherence to deadlinesExcellent written, verbal and nonverbal communication skills. An ability to communicate and liaise with colleagues at all levels within the CompanyStrategic thinkerDemonstrated project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities under tight deadlinesThe ability to quickly and effectively react to changing needs of a dynamic company in a results-driven environmentStrong ethicsWellbeing
