Director, Corporate Communications - Finance & Legal
About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 13 About the role: The Team: S&P Global’s Corporate Communications team oversees external and internal communications programs for key corporate/enterprise functions and stakeholders in Finance, Legal, Government Affairs, Security, Risk & Compliance, Digital Solutions (Technology), and the newly established Chief Client Office (CCO), including Enterprise Marketing, Client Coverage and Commercial functions. The Corporate Communications team is responsible for developing and implementing S&P Global’s overarching corporate narrative, reporting to the Chief Communications Officer and working alongside the company’s Public Relations and Internal Communications Centers of Excellence, Divisional Communications, and business partners. The Role: The Director of Corporate Communications will report to the New York-based Global Head of Corporate Communications and will be a trusted and strategic communications advisor to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Chief Legal Officer (CLO), both based in New York, and their global leadership teams. Specifically, this role will be responsible for the strategic management and successful execution of internal and external communications programs for two very important corporate functions – Finance and Legal, Government Affairs and Security (LGAS) and Risk & Compliance (R&C). As the communications lead and partner for these functions, this individual will serve as a communications advisor to Finance, Legal and Risk executives, ensuring that these leaders and their teams’ initiatives are appropriately and effectively positioned at the company. This role will help ensure that communications activities for these functions are elevated both within the S&P Global organization and externally (where appropriate) and are aligned with the broader corporate story or narrative. The Director of Corporate Communications will work in lockstep with the Global Head of Corporate Communications and a seasoned team of global communicators to establish and drive enterprise best practices in corporate reputation, issues/crisis management, financial and M&A communications. Responsibilities: As the communications lead and partner for S&P Global’s offices of the CFO and CLO, this role will be responsible for: Internal Communications Providing strategic communications guidance and tactical support for the CFO, CLO and their respective leadership teams. Developing and implementing comprehensive communications plans to support these two key functions and broader enterprise goals. Creating clear and compelling messaging that increases enterprise-wide understanding of these two functions’ strategic priorities and significant contributions to S&P Global and in advancing the corporate narrative. Strengthening internal communications channels (e.g., intranet, newsletters, town halls, fireside chats, roundtables, etc.) to effectively amplify these two functions’ critical mandates, key initiatives, successes, and milestones across the S&P Global organization. Collaborating with S&P Global’s enterprise Internal Communications Center of Excellence team to further drive people engagement by leveraging internal communications tools and best practices. Consistently tracking, measuring, and analyzing the impact and effectiveness of internal communications in partnership with the enterprise Head of Corporate Communications and Head of Internal Communications, including soliciting feedback and assessing the resonance of internal messaging/positioning and communications campaigns for continuous improvement. Collaborating with internal procurement teams to manage contractual relationships with Communications vendors, ensuring alignment with operational needs. External Communications In close partnership with the Finance function including Investor Relations, supporting external communications efforts around corporate milestones and financial events such as quarterly earnings, annual reports, investor days, etc. to ensure accurate, clear, consistent, and timely messaging that resonates across a diverse group of external stakeholders including investors, analysts, the media, and other market participants. Ensuring clear and consistent messaging on key strategic initiatives and market events across all external communications channels, aligned with S&P Global’s trusted brand and corporate values. Developing and implementing impactful and comprehensive external communications plans to elevate the depth and breadth of experience, talent, and capabilities of our people. Identifying external communications opportunities for Finance and Legal senior executives, specifically the CFO and CLO, via select public forums and speaking engagements, traditional and social media channels, awards, professional trade and industry associations, etc. Supporting multi-stakeholder rapid response to potential issues or crisis situations and protecting brand and corporate reputation. Developing external communications collateral as needed such as press releases, commentaries/op-eds, etc. Consistently tracking, measuring, and analyzing external communications and media share- of- voice and metrics in partnership with the Head of Corporate Communications, Head of Public Relations and Divisional Communications. Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates) S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $124,192 to $214,573. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan. What We’re Looking For: Basic Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in fields such as communications, journalism, public relations, public affairs/policy or a related field or industry such as business or finance. Master’s degree a plus but not required. At least 8+ years of experience in corporate and financial communications. Experience working in financial services or similar highly regulated industries strongly preferred. Critical Skills and Experiences: A strong track record in developing and successfully executing strategic internal and external corporate communications programs and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support business growth. Exceptional written and verbal communications skills and the ability to convey complex financial topics in a clear and accessible way. Attention to detail and accountability. Knowledge of and experience in the financial services industry and working in matrixed global organizations. Knowledge of the intersection between public policy, regulation, and finance. A consummate professional with the agility, diplomacy, and experience working with and advising very senior executives and leaders especially on high-impact and high-profile topics or issues. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize critical and time-sensitive projects while managing stakeholder expectations. Experience vetting as well as building and maintaining relationships with external vendors and agencies to support communications initiatives. Demonstrated ability in finding solutions to potential issues and crisis situations to protect brand and corporate reputation.
