BigCommerce is seeking a Creative Director who is both a visionary leader and a systems thinker, capable of marrying creative excellence with business acumen to produce impactful, differentiated work. This role demands a unique blend of design thinking and systems thinking to lead our corporate brand strategy and storytelling efforts.
This is a hands-on leadership position, where you will collaborate with cross-functional partners to define project success, develop original design concepts, oversee all projects in our portfolio, and directly manage a team of production-minded creatives in both design and video. Reporting into our VP of Brand and Corporate Marketing, this position is a key component to ensuring that BigCommerce is represented in a professional, engaging, and thoughtful manner across all of our channels. The ideal person for this position is a motivating leader who is proactive in taking ownership of career development, culture, process, and creative standards.
What you’ll do:
Brand-Building and Storytelling: Strengthen our brand resonance by elevating visual storytelling across channels, ensuring consistency while embracing innovation Systems-Level Execution: Oversee the creation of campaign and promotional materials, considering the interconnectedness of various touchpoints and their impact on the overall user experience Collaborative Innovation: Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into bold, human-centered creative solutions that drive measurable results Design Thinking Leadership: Inspire and educate the organization on the power of design thinking, emphasizing empathy, ideation, and iteration in problem-solving Brand Evolution: Maintain, govern, and evolve our brand and design guidelines, considering the holistic impact of changes on the entire system Quality Assurance: Define quality markers for Marketing Design, implementing processes that consider both user needs and system constraints Team Management: Lead the Marketing Design team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and systems thinking Strategic Partnerships: Manage external agencies, ensuring quality and alignment with our systemic approach to our brand Design Advocacy: Represent design rationale with a clear point-of-view, considering both user experience and broader system implications Team Development: Shape the structure of the Marketing Design team, focusing on hiring, designer development, and performance management within the context of our organizational ecosystemIdeal Candidate Qualities
