Ameren Illinois provides electric transmission and distribution service and natural gas distribution service. Every day, we deliver electricity to 1.2 million electric and 816,000 natural gas customers in central and southern Illinois. We deliver safe, reliable energy to more than 1,200 communities.
About The Position
The Director, Gas Operations is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable natural gas delivery to Ameren Illinois' 800,000 gas customers that are served within his/her region. The Director leads multiple teams of highly-skilled, specialized professionals that are focused on all aspects of the design, construction, maintenance, measurement, customer satisfaction and financial control needed to deliver gas to power the quality of life of customers, communities and businesses.
Key responsibilities include:
Directs the design, maintenance, and construction activities of a geographically dispersed, multiple operating center region staff of 70 or more co-workers including engineering, gas distribution, distribution, and gas associated metering.
Develops, monitors, and actively engages employees in safe work practices with a goal of zero unsafe acts. The Director is responsible and accountable for the safety performance of his/her region.
Manages multi-million dollar operations/maintenance and construction budgets to ensure reliable, cost-effective natural gas service to customers.
Manages the hiring and recruiting process with consideration of EEO goals, MAP targets, QIP Targets and attrition.
Ensures Ameren Illinois Company (AIC) customers are satisfied with the services provided by region personnel and works to ensure a positive AIC image to all customers.
Develops and manages relationships with key governmental officials, major customers, and community groups including economic development boards and chambers of commerce. Partners with Team CPR and Media Relations to ensure positive relationships with these key stakeholders. Also works with Media Relations to ensure timely response to media information requests and represents AIC in the cities and towns encompassed by the region.
Directs region emergency response activities in support of storms, gas emergencies, third-party damage, and other significant events that cause damage to AIC infrastructure.
Partners with Labor Relations to administer multiple union contracts. Builds positive working relationships with union leadership and ensures compliance with labor contract provisions.
Ensures employee compliance with Ameren corporate policies and procedures and ensures compliance training is completed.
Assists the Real Estate group in the acquisition of land and easements for new facilities including meeting with governmental bodies, zoning boards, and customers as needed.
Partners with Fleet Services to replace and maintain vehicles and other equipment.
Ensures timely and engaging employee communication including Town Hall, Strategy, and other communication meetings with employees.
Works with Regulatory Affairs to secure multi-year franchise agreements with the cities and towns within the region.
Partners with the Building Services Department to maintain, repair and make major improvements at Operating Center facilities and work sites, from both short term and long term perspectives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering or business.
Master’s degree preferred.
10 years of relevant experience in construction or operation of the gas distribution system, gas transmission, gas equipment, design and operations experience in gas distribution systems, or other relevant utility-specific experience required.
5 years of supervisory experience required.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Experience in field operations required.
Experience supervising both professional and union workers required.
Experience reviewing and analyzing budget strongly preferred.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite of applications required.
Broad knowledge of gas system required.
Broad knowledge of Ameren systems required (OAS, CSS).
Communication (oral and written) and presentation skills strongly preferred.
