Director, Education and Development
Overview

Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of line of business education programs including orientation and in-services. Collaborates with program leadership to identify and address development, implementation and ongoing education opportunities and initiatives. Oversees the integration of evidence-based practice and research into all education programs. Ensures all programs adhere to established clinical standards, guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. Oversees clinical program and procedure development. Works under general direction.


Responsibilities
Manages the development of clinical and business education initiatives and projects that foster continuous improvement principles and best practices.  Collaborates with program leadership in identification of strategies and projects.  Establishes and disseminates goals and objectives for each strategy/project and keeps leadership updated on status. Directs, develops and coordinates the implementation, administration and evaluation of all education programs, protocols, and standards for a specific line of business; makes revisions/improvements as appropriate. Develops and disseminates e-training and WebEx sessions.  Collaborates with regional leadership to ensure learning needs are being met.Ensures all clinical education programs are in accordance with standards of nursing practice, state and federal regulations and VNSNY policies and procedures.Assesses education needs, skills, competencies, behaviors and outcomes required for staff to improve performance, meet strategic objectives and achieve desired results. Develops plans to address needs uncovered.Assesses overall effectiveness of orientation and education/training programs.  Designs methodology to obtain regular feedback from participants.  Makes improvements based on feedback.Applies evidence-based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, clinical practice, quality outcomes, and customer/member satisfaction.Keeps up to date on the latest issues and trends in clinical education and patient care populations through networking, professional memberships, and select journal reading.  Synthesizes trends and determines application and integration into department.  Oversees the development of educational programs that address these trends.Performs all duties inherent in a managerial role.  Ensures effective staff training, evaluates staff performance, provides input for the development of the department budget, and hires, promotes, and terminates staff and recommends salary actions as appropriate.   Participates on special assignments and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Licensure:

License and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.  Master’s degree or Certification in Nursing Education preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of seven years of clinical staff development experience required.  Demonstrated knowledge of clinical practice, training and adult learning techniques required. Ability to effectively handle multiple competing tasks simultaneously, while maintaining a professional and positive demeanor, required.Effective oral/written communication and organizational skills required. Proficient with personal computers, including MS Word, Excel preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate and interact well with senior leaders across VNSNY required.
