**Title: Director EHS&S** **Location: Philadelphia, PA** **Position Summary** The Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHS&S) Department is responsible for the overall safety and security of all employees, visitors, and contractors. The EH&S department holds various compliance requirements including compliance with federal, state, and local permit requirements relating to environmental statutes, worker safety/health, and security relating to both physical and cybersecurity. The EHS&S department has a wide range of recordkeeping requirements, including safety/health incident and accident reporting, chemical/physical hazard registries, and security risk and business continuity planning and maintenance programs. The position reports to the General Manager. The EHS&S Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving Catalent’s EHS&S programs in a manner that reduces risk, prevents incidents, and complies with external regulatory requirements to provide an environment that is safe and secure for employees, visitors, and contractors. **The Role:** + Guide and promote employee health and safety performance by developing health and safety systems, policies and procedures, campaigns, and programs to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses and enhance the overall site safety culture resulting in management engagement, employee involvement, and the reduction of unsafe conditions and behaviors. + Provide technical consultation that includes assessment and management of EHS&S issues and risks arising from operations to prevent incidents and protect company assets and business affairs. Inspect, assess, monitor, investigate, and/or recommend corrective and preventative actions, conduct trend analysis, document compliance with standards, design programs and implement; accountable for incident handling and reporting of EH&S issues. + Manage and develop the EHS&S team of personnel (e.g., EH&S Specialist, Security Manager, and others). Assist and guide internal and external customers with regards to Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security issues, including special projects, new products, and complaints or concerns. + Conduct assessments, inventories, and inspections for various environmental and safety regulations. These include: Job Hazard Assessments Accident Investigations Hazard control and Prevention Reports Tracking and verification of corrective actions Environmental Impact Assessments Audits to the EHS&S + Advance the EHS&S objectives and achievement of results through the engagement of appropriate stakeholders throughout the organization including the management and direction of the site safety committees. + Ensure that complaints, incidents, compliance deviations, and enforcement actions are fully investigated and work with other departments to ensure corrective and preventative measures are taken. Establish, maintain, and continually improve a process where employees can communicate EHS&S related questions and concerns + Implement and continuously improve loss control programs such as emergency response, business continuity, crisis management planning, access control and building/life safety consulting other leaders as appropriate. Serve as site specific EH&S compliance program owner to interpret EH&S regulations and develop standards, procedures, and programs that include, but are not limited to safety, ergonomic, and industrial hygiene. + Perform facility audits, surveys, and inspections to identify environmental, security, and occupational hazards and weaknesses to promote effective practices and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies, or process improvement. + Manage the Industrial Hygiene program in compliance with regulatory and company requirements to ensure samplings are conducted, employees are trained, and appropriate engineering controls are placed to ensure employee health and safety. In addition, supervise medical surveillance program including but not limited to respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and employee exposure monitoring. + Adhere and maintain 100% compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Prepare, submit (as appropriate, by law), and document all Homeland Security, EPA, and OSHA requirements up to but not limited to OSHA 300 log, CAA, CWA, RCRA, storm water/wastewater, and Tier II reports, if applicable. Oversee all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation. + Develop and implement training for all personnel to assure understanding and compliance of EHS&S programs and environmental permit conditions. Interact, report, and provide company representation to regulatory bodies relating to particular aspects of EHS&S affairs, compliance matters, enforcement actions, remedial activities, and regulatory affairs. Interface with external professional services, customers, regulators, and industry, represent Catalent at public meetings and hearings, and perform public relations duties. + Collaborate with corporate subject matter experts or functional leaders to develop and drive corporate/local initiatives. Develop and oversee EH&S budget. Administer and manage the Workers’ Compensation programs including individual case management where appropriate. + Oversee the Security Manager and ensure the site is in compliance with all Catalent required security directives. + Take responsibility for direct reports’ performance by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring constructive feedback, and addressing performance-related concerns and issues promptly. Work with, coach, and support direct reports in developing knowledge, skills, and abilities in the interest of performance improvement and employee’s career development **The Candidate:** + Bachelor of Science degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline, required + Minimum 8 years EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment, required + Experience in the pharmaceutical or manufacturing industry, preferred + Must be able to read and understand English-written job instructions and safety requirements + Good Communication Skills, both written and verbal. + Strong interpersonal skills and is comfortable working in a team environment, as well as independently. + Good Computer Skills. Knowledge of MS Office and Controlled Document Management systems are a plus. + Exercises sound judgment and is analytical in thought. + Challenges the status quo and understands and drives continuous improvement. + Is comfortable working in a dynamic environment with many conflicting priorities. + Ability to be on feet and move easily throughout the Operations facilities. + Ability to quickly learn and implement QA Auditing techniques. + Proficient in reading and understanding engineering drawings/material specifications. **Physical, Safety and Behavioral Requirements:** + Thoroughly understand regulatory requirements, including TSA, DHS, OSHA and EPA compliance standards, that include regulations related to storm water/wastewater, RCRA, CAA, CWA, air emissions reporting, and other EHS&S-related federal, state, and local laws that apply to the business. + Experience in risk assessments, risk management, ergonomics, personnel protective equipment, industrial safety, injury and incident investigation, reporting, industrial hygiene, auditing, and training. + Successful track record of designing and managing employee safety and workers’ compensation and must possess and demonstrate the ability to build cohesive, highly motivated teams, direct individuals, and delegate responsibilities and tasks. + Must possess excellent problem solving, analytical, influencing, and negotiating skills. + Knowledge and ability to implement process and program improvements. + Possess the ability to create and develop long term strategic plans. + Demonstrated leadership skills in managing a team, as well as engaging others through committees, champions, projects, etc. to achieve targeted results. **Behavioral Requirements:** + Must be dependable and show initiative to improve the overall throughput and financial goals of the organization. + Must possess and demonstrate excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications and presentation skills. + Must be able to interact effectively with a variety of individuals at all levels within the organization and with outside agencies. + Ability to see and hear, read, and write clear English. + Requires adaptability, analyzing, assessing, calculating, decision making, dependability, good judgment, reading, memorizing, social skills, speaking, stress control, writing. + Ability to communicate effectively and follow/retain detailed written and verbal instruction in an accurate, timely, safe, and professional manner with supervisor, group members, and other departments as necessary, in a professional and accurate manner. + Ability to manage time effectively to complete assignments in expected time frame and independently seek out additional work when tasks are completed ahead of time + Ability to cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment or work alone. + Detail oriented with ability to work effectively under high pressure with multiple deadlines. + Strong ability to multi-task in a fast pace environment. + Positive attitude and ability to work with others. + Ability to process a large volume of work. + Ability to effectively carry out and implement change. + Ability to put aside personal opinions and focus on business needs, department needs, or group needs. **Leadership Requirements:** + Establishes an effective, professional, and positive relationship with employees. + Clarifies responsibilities and expectations and holds employees accountable. + Participates in and conducts timely HR-related processes. + Provides timely constructive feedback that is clear and direct. + Provides guidance on how to strengthen knowledge, skills, and abilities to improve personal and organizational performance. + Uses appropriate methods and flexible interpersonal style and coaching to develop others’ capabilities. + Recognizes and reinforces developmental efforts, progress, and improvements. + Collaboratively works with direct reports to set meaningful performance objectives. **Safety and Environmental Requirements:** + Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen, reaching with hands and arms, talking, writing, listening. + Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, carrying, grasping. + Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. + Must comply with EHS&S responsibilities for the position. + Working conditions will be heating ventilation and air condition controlled. + Working in a lab environment will require working with skin irritants, lung irritants, electrical equipment, sharp instruments, toxic materials, and hazardous waste.
