Job Summary Assists CNE/VP Clinical Operations in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the nursing care delivery, personnel, materials and services necessary to provide quality, cost effective patient care within the patient care units of Corewell Health Hospitals. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, human resource development, performance improvement and maintenance of collaborative relationships with physician leaders. Essential Functions Organizes the structure of assigned service line. Directs and supervises nursing services to assure safe, cost effective, quality nursing care delivery in the clinical area based on regulatory, accrediting and professional practice standards, and the philosophy, policies and procedures for the Nursing Division and assigned Service Line. Ensures practice is in accordance with the Michigan Public Health Code. Evaluation of care delivery is achieved through performance improvement process, monitoring of quality indicators, evaluation of staff performance, and clinical rounds. Monitors and evaluates the Spectrum Health environment, culture, and priorities that direct and support care delivery. Responsible for ensuring a work environment that promotes and embraces diversity. Provides leadership in a manner that is culturally sensitive and preserves autonomy, dignity and rights of patient’s, families and staff. + Collaborates with COO, CNE, medical director, medical staff, nursing staff, other departments and/or professional groups to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services that support patient care delivery, and plan effective utilization of workforce, facilities and equipment. + Plans, prepares, implements, monitors and controls service line/ assigned areas’ operational and capital budget to ensure sound fiscal management consistent with the goals of Corewell Health. Plans staffing and resource allocation to meet productivity targets and patient care needs. Develops programs and collaborative strategies to enhance growth and revenue for service areas. + Develops and maintains quality monitoring system to continuously monitor and measure the quality, safety and outcomes of nursing services. Develops service/ unit quality indicators to evaluate unit performance, staff performance, level of practice for specific patient populations and develops improvement plans to correct variances. Participates in and facilitates interdisciplinary performance initiatives. Participates in the development and review of policies, procedures and guidelines based on evidence based practice, research findings, and Corewell Health quality outcomes. + Encourages an environment supportive of nursing research. Supports research that promotes evidence-based, clinically effective, nurse-sensitive patient outcomes and other healthcare outcomes. Works with the departments of professional practice, education and research to ensure on-going education and development opportunities for staff based on populations served, professional practice, new technology and/or required skills. Assists identification of trends and competencies in nursing administration and nursing practice. + Assures a process to identify and address ethical issues within nursing and the organization. Formulates decisions and actions based on ethical principles. Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide practice. Advocates for privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient, staff and organization data. Creates a climate of effective communication. Facilitates an environment of cooperative and collaborative relationships among disciplines and departments. Collaborates with peers, managers and staff to create and execute a vision for change that mobilizes, encourages, and unifies interdisciplinary and practice group teams. + Develops, maintains, and evaluates a professional practice environment that empowers and supports staff. Encourages shared decision-making, accountability, and autonomy in nursing practice. Establishes and promotes a framework for professional nursing practice which includes mission, vision, core values, philosophy, evidence-based practice, and standards of practice. Serves as a role model and mentor to staff, colleagues and students. Plans, organizes, and delegates work. Completes performance appraisals. Conducts personnel actions such as hiring, firing, and corrective action in collaboration with Human Resources. Qualifications + Required Master's Degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or in a related field.
