Director, Endoscopy and Pain Center Services

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Human Resources:

                

Recruits, hires, trains, orients, evaluates performance of assigned personnel, counsels and administers disciplinary action up to, and including, suspension and / or termination.

 

In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, determines human resource needs and develops or assists in the development of programs to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of the assigned department.

 

Recruits, hires, orients, and evaluates performance of Supervisor(s) or Coordinator(s) and other assigned personnel to assure that department is staffed with individuals who reflect behavior and performance consistent with the hospital’s Mission and Values statement. Has authority to hire, terminate and/or take other disciplinary action as may be deemed appropriate and is in accordance with hospital policy.

 

Handles various types of problems, complaints, and inquiries regarding services, operations, schedules, policies, and procedures including incident reports.

 

Develops and administers a master staffing plan for assigned areas in conjunction with approved budget.

 

Identifies educational and training needs of departmental staff or individual(s) impacting assigned functions and plans with other appropriate staff members for the implementation of training needs.

 

Fiscal Management:

 

Develops and submits to Director for approval, appropriate capital and operating budget and is accountable for the achievement of capital and operating budget objectives within areas of responsibility.

 

Monitors staff productivity analysis, and inventory control. Monitors and adjusts staffing schedules and operations to meet budgetary requirements.

 

Operational:

 

With the approval of the Director, develops and implements departmental goals and objectives, new programs, policies, procedures, and standards affecting functions and operations, including Performance Improvement activities. Evaluates departmental daily activities and makes operational changes as necessary to improve service levels.

 

Keeps current with professional, regulatory and reimbursement issues that affect operational and clinical compliance and works with other departments to assure compliance.

 

Represents with assigned departments with clinical task forces and committees, coordinating service response and providing information. Includes committees and task forces involved with JCAHO standards, clinical practice and PI initiatives.

 

Quality Management:

 

Develops and administers the departmental Quality Improvement plan for all assigned cost centers in a manner consistent with the hospital’s Mission and Values statement. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation agencies.

 

Communications:

 

Communicates and coordinates with the departments and services on a daily basis operational activities necessary to provide an efficient and quality service. Advises Director of systems problems which negatively impact or prevent the effective operations of their department.

 

Communicates regularly with departmental staff to keep them abreast of information which will assist in the safe and effective performance of their jobs and to create an understanding of hospital‑wide performance and direction.

 

Leadership

 

Integrates departmental services with the hospital’s primary functions.

 

Coordinates and integrates services within department and with other departments.

 

Develops and implements policies and procedures to guide and support the provision of services.

 

Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care.

 

Determines the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners.

 

Continuously assesses and improves departmental performance.

 

Maintains appropriate quality control programs.

 

Provides for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department.

 

Recommends space and other resources needed by the department.

 

Participates in selecting outside sources for needed services.

                    

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to Director.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

 

Bachelor degree in a Health Care Related or Business field.. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. State nursing license required

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

 

BS degree in nursing Master’s degree Demonstrated ability to set priorities, coordinates diversified and multiple activities and make appropriate administrative decisions. Must possess advanced problem solving skills, working independently and communicate tactfully.
