Amentum provides overall management, development, and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering and Test (COMET) contract.  This contract supports the International Space Station (ISS), Exploration Ground System (EGS), and Launch Service Provider (LSP) programs.

 

The Director of Engineering provides leadership and technical expertise for the Engineering department on COMET which includes Ground Systems Design, Analysis, Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) and Specialty Engineering services to the EGS, ISS and LSP programs at KSC.  Primary disciplines include Electrical ( Control Systems), Fluids, Mechanical, and Structural.

 

Work activities include support of the following efforts\: Artemis mission design certification of ground support equipment for the Vehicle Assembly Building, Mobile Launcher 1 tower/platform and launch pad elements; post-mission facility modifications; Mobile Launcher 2 subsystem design reviews/support and incremental modification design work. Sustain engineering supporting Operations & Maintenance of assets that are being upgraded and modified to support NASA’s current / future Artemis missions, as well as International Space Station and other Launch Service Providers is also included.

 

Responsibilities

Direct the overall operations of Engineering department staff within general COMET objectives; develop and recommend plans/programs and implements; assigns personnel and provides evaluation of results.

 

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to\:

·       Demonstrate support to the safety program, actively engage the team, provide tools, processes, and Personal Protective Equipment to create an incident and injury free environment.

·       Set strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity while leveraging recent and relevant industry best-practices.

·       Maintain consistent customer communications to gain a clear understanding of customer needs & priorities.  Partner delivery expectations and calibrates appropriate expectations. 

·       Prepare department resource estimates and comply with overall Operating Plan and NASA short-/long- term budget limitations.

·       Lead department to maximize efficiency for COMET including interdepartmental collaboration.

·       Oversee management staff to ensure COMET engineering practices comply or exceed NASA KSC design standards, as well as other local and federal regulatory agencies requirements.

·       Hold management team and subordinate organizations accountable to ensure Engineering department commitments to design and operational schedules are met.

·       Interpret, develop, and implement policies and procedures within corporate guidelines.

·       Serve as an advisor to executive management on matters within areas of Engineering responsibility; serve as member of corporate committees.

·       Perform other related duties as assigned.

The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related engineering/science field from an accredited college or university and fifteen (15) years related experience, or master’s degree and thirteen (13) years related experience, or PhD and nine (9) years of related experience. Experience must include at least five (5) years of successfully managing people.

·       Demonstrated track record of delivery excellence, continuous improvement, and strategic visioning, with proof points of implementation of significant initiatives providing measurable positive quality and efficiency impacts.

·       Must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to direct the work of others while prioritizing multiple customers and projects.

·       Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills on technical and non-technical topics.

·       Must possess excellent critical thinking skills to be able to identify weaknesses and strengths of alternative solutions or approaches to problems.

·       In-depth computer experience with Microsoft Office.

·       Must have the ability to maintain and retain security clearance, if necessary.

·       If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/Green Card holder of the United States is required.

 

Physical Requirements

·       May be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and other associated personal protective equipment.

·       Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.

·       Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.

·       Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.

 

Work Environment

·       Work will mainly be completed inside, but field work can be a combination of outside and inside work depending on the project.

·       Working at heights and in confined spaces may be required.

·       Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site.

·       Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, may be required to access various locations on the facility.

·       Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.

·       All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and company safety standards.

·       Computers and printers used for producing reports and schedules.

·       Variety of equipment used in performing research.

 

Attendance

·       Full-time work hours.

·       Position may require occasional overtime, including weekend work, depending on task.

·       Must be dependable and punctual.

·       Shift work may be required.

·       Must be able to accurately communicate ideas in writing and verbal communication.

·       Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
