Job Description
Teledyne Energetics designs, develops and manufactures Air Crew Safety rugged electronics for ejection seats and various initiation devices that range from detonators (EBW/LEEFI) to Electronic Safe and Arm products. The group consists of two businesses: Teledyne Electronic Safety Products (ESP) located in Chatsworth, CA and Teledyne RISI located in Tracy, CA.
We are looking for a highly enthusiastic engineering professional that possess exceptional technical, communication and presentation abilities. This position is pivotal to maintaining and growing technical capabilities in the area of Aircrew Safety and Energetic devices.
The opportunity will offer exciting journey of modernizing and growing engineering team and facilitate expansion into more complex development activities in the defense and rugged commercial electronics markets.
Candidate will plan, direct and manage all engineering activities for the business unit with budget and schedule responsibility for engineering functions managed. Candidate will provide strategic vision and leadership to the engineering team and will be setting, implementing, and maintaining process/standards for the engineering department.
This position part of the leadership team and will report directly to a General Manager Teledyne Energetics. Position is located in Chatsworth, CA and will require hands-on involvement with all engineering efforts (design, development, process, estimating). The role will have engineering/technical responsibility that covers products that span across both ESP and RISI locations.
Objectives:
Provide engineering leadership to ensure effective utilization of technical resources, equipment and tools to meet schedule, budget and sales/profitability objectives.
Bolster, grow and expand engineering capabilities to match business growth demands and market changes.
Lead and drive technical discussions with the customer (TIMs, etc) and all design review events (SRR, PDR, IDR, CDR, TRR).
Influence and establish engineering best practices through solid design decisions, process and tools in the area of rugged electronics design.
Drive technical product strategy and innovation that aligns with strategic growth objectives of the business.
Direct investigation of equipment/product issues, drive root cause analysis and make technical recommendations.
Estimate engineering costs to support bids/internal development efforts.
Encourage and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Improve engineering process and tools.

Proactively communicate with other departments and business units, such as financial department to establish budgets, HR department to hire new workers, manufacturing team for delivery support, and program management team.

Strong understanding of system engineering concepts, requirements management and systematic problem solving skills.
Strong debug/integration/troubleshooting experience – acting as a leader and a sounding board for the engineering team.

Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills with ability to manage cross-functional team members.
Ability to organize and manage multiple development programs and priorities.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (Electrical/Systems/Aerospace)
Master’s Degree in a technical field and/or MBA is a plus
10+ years of progressive experience in a key leadership/engineering management roles
Technical competency and experience with rugged electronics design (analog and digital)
DO-178/254 development experience or equivalent critical safety process rigor
Technical proposal development leadership experience (technical volume development)
Previous experience/best practices implementing and using continuous improvement/lean tools such as; Six Sigma, 5-S, etc. to drive improvement
Hands-on experience with rugged electronics design and validation
Experience with energetic systems/architectures is highly desired
Able to lead with minimal guidance

Salary Range:
$177,500.00-$236,600.000Pay Transparency
