Director, Engineering - Automation

Reporting to our SVP of Engineering, we seek a seasoned Director of Engineering - Automation to lead and scale our Automation Platform organization, a cornerstone of PagerDuty's future growth strategy.

PagerDuty's automation platform enables organizations to create automated workflows and responses to incidents, alerts, and operational issues. The system can automatically route alerts to the right teams, escalate issues based on severity, and trigger predefined response actions without human intervention.

In this role, you will oversee the design, development, and evolution of our automation suite.

Key Responsibilities:

Define and execute a cohesive engineering strategy that aligns with the company’s multi-product roadmap Build, mentor and retain high-performing engineering teams, while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence Foster a strong product and engineering partnership by establishing shared goals, clear communication, and a culture of mutual trust and respect Act as a key liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders to advocate, communicate automation priorities, timelines and impact

Basic Qualifications:

10+ years of engineering experience with 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles at scale (Director+) Track record of building and scaling enterprise SaaS platforms processing 1M+ transactions daily, with deep expertise in backend systems and architectures for complex enterprise environments Proven success leading and scaling distributed engineering teams, including recruiting, mentoring, and developing high-performing talent Demonstrated ability to drive strategic technical decisions while balancing operational excellence and innovation Strong executive presence with proven ability to: Lead cross-functional initiatives and stakeholder relationships Translate business requirements into technical solutions Drive outcomes with urgency in a high-growth environment Balance short-term delivery with long-term strategic investments Innovative thinker, get stuff done attitude, be a positive disruptive force for change

Preferred Qualifications:

Leader That Has Owned And Supported Production Systems. Previous experience building automation platforms or workflow orchestration systems Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

The base salary range for this position is 203,000 - 303,000 CAD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, commission, equity, and/or benefits.

Our base salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range, which is subject to change based on primary work location, reflects the minimum and maximum base salary we expect to pay newly hired employees for the position. Within the range, we determine pay for an individual based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills/competencies and experience.
