Your impact on the team We are seeking an Engineering Leader with a proven track record of delivering scalable, performant, responsive, and accessible web and mobile products. As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for hiring, leading, and inspiring a team of talented engineers to develop Sharpen, an innovative and multi-platform product from McGraw Hill. You will oversee the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to launch and beyond. In collaboration with Engineering leadership, you will contribute to shaping the technology vision and strategy for McGraw Hill. This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. What You will be doing: Create a work environment that supports high quality software development Build a world class engineering team by hiring the right people, mentoring them and helping them be the best at what they do Collaborate with peers across the company and create technology roadmap for the product Develop plans for all phases of product life cycle including research, design, development and support Create required artifacts for successful execution of projects Build tools for internal customers including Sales, Marketing and Customer support teams Create and execute product analytics strategy Perform code reviews to ensure quality and implementation of best practices Work closely with UX leadership and build accessible and responsive products that customers love to use Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including executives, to provide updates on project status, risks, and opportunities. We’re looking for someone with: 8+ years of applicable experience or 7+ years of applicable experience and 2+ years of managerial experience. Proven experience building applications used at large scale Experience with SOC2, HIPPA, GDPR and other compliance standards Hands on experience with: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and TypeScript Node.js React AWS Caching solutions like Redis Relational and non-relational databases iOS & Swift Java Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing large, complex projects. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. The pay range for this position is between $155,000 - $230,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
