We’re seeking a future team member for the role of DIRECTOR, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS to join our PUBLIC POLICY AND GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS (PPGA) team to help develop, prioritize and advance BNY’s federal government affairs priorities. This role is located in WASHINGTON, DC – HYBRID.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, collaborative and creative with a record of successfully executing on priorities and building coalitions. In this role, you will work in collaboration with the Head of Federal Government Affairs and colleagues on the Public Policy and Government Affairs (PPGA) team to develop and advance public policy priorities and build the bank’s profile in Washington to help position the bank with policy makers, clients and other stakeholders. You will establish yourself as a trusted advisor and collaborator, working across the bank, including with senior leaders, functional teams, lines of business and partners across the bank. This role will report to the Head of US Government Affairs and will be based in Washington, DC. 

In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: 

Develop, prioritize and advance key public policy priorities for BNY at the federal level and engage with elected officials and policymakers. Collaborate with colleagues on the Public Policy and Government Affairs (PPGA) team to understand the regulatory and legislative environment that impacts our business and how it intersects with BNY’s strategy and interests, share information and drive towwards shared objectives. Build and leverage relationships with policymakers and allies to build coalitions that help advance key priorities and manage BNY Mellon’s public policy engagement with trade associations, membership organizations, consultants and other allies and partners. Work with internal stakeholders, including partners in Communications, Foundation, Community Solutions and Legal to address public policy issues and advance solutions and serve as a trusted advisor and partner. Prepare briefing, presentation and advocacy materials that distill policy messages and resonate across a range of audiences, including policymakers, partners and clients. Represent BNY Mellon Political Action Committee in internal and external engagements.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

12-15+ years of experience in public policy, advocacy or government affairs with engagement in the political process with policymakers and stakeholders ideally with background in both the public and private sector and exposure to financial services issues Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to distill complex policies and information in succinct and compelling ways with diverse audiences. Proven experience leading, collaborating and executing on policy issues across multiple stakeholders in a dynamic environment. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to build consensus with the ability to independently execute tasks and deliver results. Creativity, curiosity and a self-starter demeanor with the ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and thrive in fast-paced environments. Strong political acumen through understanding of public policy, political dynamics and the ability to be effective with members of both political parties. Sound judgment and exceptional organizational and administrative skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage many competing priorities and responsibilities.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $139,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
