Director, Field Based Technology
**Description** **Job Overview** - Travel expectations: 25% (within the U.S.) - In-office work environment with some flexibility We are seeking an experienced Director of Field-Based Technology to lead the implementation, management, and innovation of technology solutions for Asplundh Tree Expert and Asplundh Infrastructure Group. This role is responsible for ensuring field teams across vegetation management and utility infrastructure operations have the latest tools, software, and connectivity to improve efficiency, safety, and compliance. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between office-based IT and field operations, driving technology adoption to enhance project execution in power line clearance, right-of-way maintenance, and infrastructure construction. **Key Responsibilities** **Technology Strategy & Implementation** - Develop and execute a technology roadmap to enhance productivity, safety, and compliance in field operations across Asplundh Tree Expert and Asplundh Infrastructure Group. - Evaluate, implement, and oversee the use of GIS mapping, drone technology, mobile workforce applications, and remote monitoring solutions. - Collaborate with operations managers, vegetation management specialists, and utility project teams to align technology solutions with field needs. - Oversee field-based technologies and ensure their effective deployment across our subsidiaries and field regions. **IT Service Delivery & Relationship Management** - Manage IT service delivery to ensure field teams receive timely technical support and optimized digital tools. - Establish strong relationship management with internal stakeholders, field teams, and external technology partners. - Develop best practices for IT service operations to support ongoing business needs and technology advancements. **Field Technology Support & Training** - Provide training and ongoing support to field teams on the effective use of digital tools, software, and connected devices. - Troubleshoot technology-related issues in the field and develop protocols for quick resolution. - Develop best practices and documentation for the use of new technology across job sites. **Data Management & Connectivity** - Oversee real-time data collection, cloud storage solutions, and integration of field data into project management and compliance platforms. - Improve site connectivity solutions (e.g., mobile networks, satellite communication) to enable seamless field-office collaboration. - Ensure data security, regulatory compliance, and reporting accuracy for utility contracts and environmental standards. **Innovation & Continuous Improvement** - Stay updated on emerging technologies in vegetation management automation, AI-driven predictive maintenance, and remote sensing solutions. - Lead pilot programs to test and implement new digital solutions for field inspections, work planning, and safety monitoring. - Collaborate with vendors, regulatory bodies, and industry partners to leverage cutting-edge field technology. **Qualifications & Experience** - Experience in a field-based service organization required. Utility, construction, or vegetation management experience is a plus. - Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Utility Management, IT, Engineering, or a related field. - 7-10 years of relevant experience in field technology, vegetation management, utility construction, IT service delivery, or IT project management. - Strong knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro) and asset management platforms. - Experience with drones, IoT sensors, RFID tracking, mobile work order systems, and remote monitoring technologies. - Ability to manage technology rollouts, train field teams, and optimize workflows for efficiency and safety. - Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a dynamic field environment. **Benefits** We offer a competitive benefits package that provides a foundation of support for the health, safety, and security of you and your family.
