Overview

QUALIFICATIONS: Should be a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana with at least three years’ supervisory experience. Experience and skills in working with children in a nursing role and within a psychiatric and/or residential treatment facility strongly desired. Possesses a working knowledge of child welfare services (preferred), and demonstrates actual or potential administrative skills and leadership. ARC CPR/First aid certification highly desired.


SUPERVISION: Is responsible to and evaluated by Executive Director. Directly supervises staff in the Health Services area, including Assistant Health Service Director, nursing staff, and Medical Billing Specialist. Works closely with the consulting psychiatrist, physician, NP, neurologist and Dietician to assist as necessary with treatment development and appointments.


POSITION PHILOSOPHY: Functions as a Senior Leadership Team member with nursing and medical/psychiatric expertise. Functions in management as an extension of the Executive Director. Is responsible for Health Service Department coordination, participating in the new admission’s meetings and clinical treatment review.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS LISTED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Maintains a typical business schedule unless department requires a temporary schedule change.
2. Services in the on-call rotation of nursing staff; typically one week per month.
3. Is responsible for oversight of all medication storage and administration. In the absence of a Health Service Director this responsibility falls to the Assistant Health Service Director.
4. Ensures that Assistant Health Services Director has appropriate schedule coverage for med passing.
5. Monitors and ensures that all staff function within legal, licensing, and Agency guidelines across all shifts in providing a therapeutic and safe environment for the residents.
6. Maintains knowledge of the residents, treatment programs, and all Agency approved treatment techniques; in conjunction with the Executive Director, other department directors, and Human Resources, develops and revises programs and/or policies as needed within the larger Senior Leadership team.
7. Demonstrates good problem solving in dealing with emergency needs and unusual occurrences.
8. Ensures the use of Agency forms per policies; ensures completion of all required paperwork within the department.
9. Consistently demonstrates a self-directed, mature, disciplined, and tactful approach to completing work duties.
10. Protects resident rights and investigates any violation; reports results per designated agency channels.
