Position Title Director, Institutional Assessment Position Type Administrative Department Data Science, Innovation and Effectiveness (DSIE) FLSA Exempt Union/Non Union Non Union Full Time or Part Time Full Time Grade 17 Salary Range Hiring Salary Range $84,669 - $121,017 / annually Fixed Term/Tenure Track (Faculty Only) Regular or Temporary Regular Job Description Summary The Director of Institutional Assessment is responsible for the coordination and support of all student learning outcomes assessment plans and activities at the course, program, and institutional levels. In addition, the Director collaborates with others to help ensure that the College’s Strategic Goals are infused in the annual objectives of individual units and that unit’s ability to achieve their objectives is regularly assessed. As Chair of the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Committee and Co-Chair of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee, the Director provides training and collaborates on the creation and implementation of standards, policies, and procedures related to the improvement of student learning and institutional effectiveness. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION Master’s degree in social science or related field. Doctorate preferred

EXPERIENCE Minimum of five years’ experience in the area of learning outcomes assessment and program evaluation at a post-secondary educational institution, preferably at a community college. Minimum of three years supervisory experience. Experience teaching at a postsecondary institution preferred. Prior experience leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive approach to outcomes assessment preferred Criteria CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Supervises the activities of direct reports. Coordinates the work of faculty assigned to support the development and assessment of student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional levels. Collaborates with deans, associate deans, chairs, program coordinators, and faculty in the design and use of measures of student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness. Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of the college-wide integrated planning system. Collaborates with Professional Development to provide ongoing training opportunities for faculty and staff in the areas of student learning outcomes assessment and assessment of institutional effectiveness. Oversees the regular cycle of unit reviews for every area of the College in collaboration with the Institutional Effectiveness Committee. Leads initiatives to ensure that academic and institutional assessment efforts manifest a commitment to continuous improvement. Recommends actions to ensure the design and implementation of meaningful action plans to improve student learning and institutional effectiveness. Reviews all changes to Course, Program, or Institutional Outcomes Ensures all curriculum assessment maps are completed and updated annually Collaborates with the Assistant Vice President, Curriculum, Programs, and Regulations and the Curriculum Committee Chairs on curricular matters. Oversees the Survey Resource Center. Collaborates with RAE colleagues to design and implement longitudinal research on student progression, completion, and College initiatives and programs. Provides guidance to link assessment results to planning and resource allocation efforts. Maintains alignment between area and unit objectives as part of the Strategic Planning process. Evaluates the performance of all employees under his/her supervision. Chairs the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Committee. Co-Chairs the Institutional Effectiveness Committee. Represents RAE statewide, regionally, and nationally in initiatives and affinity groups devoted to the improvement of student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness. Prepares all mandatory documents related to reporting the College’s progress in the areas of student learning outcomes and institutional effectiveness. Presents orally and in writing, in a manner appropriate to each audience, assessment results. Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Advanced knowledge of research methodologies. Advanced knowledge of assessment theory and practice. Ability to lead collaborative projects and coordinate discussion among participants with different priorities. Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Experience using assessment data for the purpose of continuous improvement at all levels. Experience with curriculum and program development at the Community College. Experience with Strategic Planning and project management. Knowledge of Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) accreditation Requirements. Advanced knowledge of research methods appropriate to assessing data in a longitudinal fashion Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills critical Ability to articulate complex data to mainstream users. Success managing multiple projects and demonstrated agility, versatility and strategic thinking skills Ability to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and staff. Ability to work in a team environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to tailor reports to various audiences. Demonstrated ability to present research findings in both written and oral formats. Job Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
