Director, Legal - eDiscovery
Your opportunity

As the Director of eDiscovery for the Charles Schwab Legal Services enterprise, you have the rare opportunity to develop, implement, and lead a newly centralized eDiscovery strategy and program. Once established, you will lead a team to deliver effective, cost efficient, compliant, and thoughtful solutions for document preservation, collection, review, and production. This is a strategic leadership role within the Legal Services department, reporting directly to the Head of Legal Operations and Strategic Initiatives. In this role you will:

Develop a centralized eDiscovery strategy and framework for the Charles Schwab Legal Services department;Select and implement accurate, efficient, and scalable eDiscovery program and platform(s);Assist legal teams with budgeting, project management, case management, data preservation, and document productions;Select, manage, and supervise performance of eDiscovery vendors;Build and lead an engaged, dynamic, and efficient eDiscovery team;Ensure thoughtful and rigorous business and risk practices; andEnhance the quality and value of the legal services we provide to Schwab.

Other responsbilitities: 

eDiscovery Strategy. Collaborating with others, you will build and run an entirely new eDiscovery program for the Charles Schwab Legal Services department. This includes developing and implementing strategy, platforms, processes, procedures, and best practices for the identification, collection, review, production, and preservation of data and documents across litigations, arbitrations, investigations, regulatory matters, and corporate governance filings.eDiscovery Matters. You are fluent in standard eDiscovery technologies and platforms but are also comfortable using advanced analytics, AI, technology-assisted review, and other evolving solutions to optimize workflows, reduce costs, mitigate risks, and enhance outcomes. Using this expertise, you will work across the department and firm to plan, execute, and manage eDiscovery projects from inception to completion. The work your team delivers is of the highest quality, on-time, and within budget.Vendor Relationships. You will help to select and manage vendor and legal service provider relationships to optimize or build scale in productions, data preservation, records management, and information governance.Change Agent. You will seek opportunities and new solutions to evolve, automate, scale, or optimize processes, procedures, and results across the discovery, records management, and document preservation practice areas.Dynamic and Inclusive People Leader. Over time, you will build and lead a team of eDiscovery professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.Disciplined Business Unit Management. 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, technologist, consultant, or eDiscovery professional in a top law firm, corporate in-house law department, or consulting firm with deep expertise in eDiscovery strategy, solutions, and services.You are expert and have deep hands-on and practical experience in all aspects of each step of the EDRM.You are a strategic thinker who understands the needs of an in-house law department and can effectuate transformational change, save costs, and manage risks.You have a demonstrated track record of envisioning and implementing a combination of processes, procedures, platforms, and culture to drive scale and optimized outcomes in document productions.You have significant experience supporting and preparing for complex litigations, internal investigations, regulatory inquiries, and corporate governance or securities filings.You have strong influence and negotiation skills. You can build relationships; conduct training; and communicate complex topics to vendors, opposing counsel, and colleagues across Schwab.You are curious, a constant learner, and an agile thinker.
