Director, Maintenance and Asset Reliability

The role will provide technical leadership for Progressive Maintenance (PM) in a union environment across our network of plants, drive overall asset reliability strategy and implement improvements needed to deliver operational excellence while increasing the technical skill level within the maintenance organization in a manner that will have a direct impact on safety, quality, efficiency, cost management, customer satisfaction, and innovation. 

 

The Maintenance & Asset Reliability Director will focus on coaching the maintenance organization across four plants on identification and resolution of abnormalities, identification, and completion of the right preventive maintenance to enable zero breakdowns and consequently improve reliability immediately. 

 

How you will contribute 

 

You will: 

Coach maintenance organizations on identification and resolution of equipment abnormalities and build a culture where maintenance resources proactively identify and address abnormalities before they become breakdowns. 

Institutionalize the culture of planned maintenance across our network of plants as well as put in place the right governance. 

Institutionalize the use of CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) to track maintenance activities within plants for tracking work orders, planned/predictive maintenance, spare parts inventory/sharing and MRO management. 

Leverage CMMS to improve spare parts management system to support planned and unplanned maintenance.  

Develop and coordinate the strategies that accelerate and improve current maintenance practices and processes to improve equipment performance, reliability, and lower overall maintenance costs. 

Initiate and manage the corporate maintenance programs based on best practices in the FMGC industry, with an emphasis on equipment criticality, time-based maintenance & condition-based maintenance, effective planning, and scheduling, completing high quality maintenance repairs, and safety, health & environmental policies and procedures. 

Analyze operational data and equipment performance history to deliver improvements in critical maintenance related metrics including unplanned downtime, PM compliance, schedule compliance, Mean-Time-Between-Failures, and maintenance related costs. 

Partner with HR to develop criteria, testing protocol, and partnerships to accelerate the identification and hiring of highly skilled maintenance associates. 

Identifies technical training and development of mechanical/electrical talent throughout the organization; works with plant management to recommend training programs. 

Develop and deliver comprehensive maintenance and reliability tactical training to maintenance resources; conduct workshops, benchmarking trips and effectively measure results tied to activities that enhance the plant's asset reliability. 

Leverage company subject matter experience/experts to advance current maintenance and reliability efforts through enhanced communication and best practice sharing.

Technical expertise in the maintenance area within FMCG industry and a deep understanding of components and their normal/abnormal conditions. 

Significant experience in leading asset reliability manufacturing performance in a fast-moving manufacturing environment with exceptional results (FMCG experience) with a career that has seen time at the Front Line and Maintenance Manager level.  

Demonstrable and intuitive knowledge on fundamentals of good manufacturing practice, process improvement and optimization, reconfiguration and imbedding of new or enhanced technology, Managing Costs and Variance, Motivators and engagement levers for shop floor-based performance, experience in TPM-Total productive maintenance, 5S, LEAN, 6 sigma tools and concepts. 

Excellent communication (verbal & written), coaching, and leadership skills in a team-based environment. Demonstrated abilities in Analytics, problem solving and team building with a strong financial & business acumen, project management skills and Knowledge of industrial maintenance and manufacturing equipment. 

Experience in interfacing with the broader Supply Chain functions and a high level of capability around managing relationships and outcomes. 

More about this role 

 What you need to know about this position: 

This Leader will oversee and support maintenance & Asset Reliability for our United States Manufacturing Sites. The individual will be based out of one of our main plant locations, preferably Chicago, IL, but Richmond, VA, or Portland, OR are also potential locations for the role.

Education / Certifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field required. Specialization course or MBA in Maintenance Engineering, Project Management or TPM/Lean is a plus. 

Job specific requirements: 

10+ years’ experience within Maintenance and Engineering managerial role. 

Proven TPM expertise and PM (Progressive Maintenance) full implementation. 

Experience leading a plant maintenance organization within FMGC industry. 

Demonstrated success leading within a continuous improvement environment. 

Demonstrated ability to function effectively in fluid, fast-paced situations, with the personal leadership to influence and positively motivate self and peers. 

Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the organization. 

Strong working knowledge of CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) like SAP PM - SAP MM. 

Familiarization with OSHA and FDA regulations. 

Verbal and written English language. 

Travel requirements: 

Travel to the various manufacturing sites across the US as needed.
