Job Summary:

This position is accountable to align the administrative functions of the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professionals with the needs of the Health System with emphasis on promoting and maintaining recognized professional standards of practice. This position must demonstrate a commitment to continual performance improvement and provide leadership consistent with the Health System’s mission, vision and values. Assigned duties and responsibilities will be carried out by working collaboratively with Medical Staff and Health System leaders.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities: 

Plan and implement services and provide resources necessary to support credentialing and other administrative responsibilities of the medical staff and allied health professionals.In collaboration with health system and medical staff leaders, design, implement and direct medical staff administrative functions that promote positive relations between physicians, the health system and other external customers.Develop and administer Medical Support Services’ departmental budget.Collaborate with medical staff leaders and legal counsel to monitor medical staff bylaws, policies and regulations and revise when appropriate.Direct medical staff administrative functions in a manner that meets state and federal regulatory standards and/or Joint Commission accreditation standards.Prepare, interpret and present reports regarding medical staff activities to health system, medical staff and Board of Trustees leaders in an effort to keep them apprised of ongoing medical staff operations.Plan, implement and oversee appointment, reappointment and clinical privileging of medical staff and allied health professional staff.Support all medical staff peer review procedures including the physician quality management committee.Develop policies and monitor performance of the medical staff through Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE).Continually monitor best practices for the design and functional efficiency of the medical staff structure and delegated responsibilities.Serve as a primary management staff for assigned projects and committees including the Medical Executive and Credentials Committees.The Director is challenged to integrate the review of ongoing Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional services with the short- and long-term planning programs of the Health System. Internally, the Director has regular and frequent interfaces with medical staff leaders, senior management, department directors and other managers. Externally, the Director works closely with state and federal regulatory agencies and accreditation organizations regarding policies, procedures and compliance.Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

BA/BS degree, required. Master level preparation desired.Minimum of five years healthcare experience, required.Mimimum of two years supervisory/management experience required.Prefer certification by a recognized professional organization in areas pertaining to medical staff management and quality management.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to design and analyze performance measurements pertaining to assigned scope of responsibility and working knowledge of quality improvement tools.Extensive knowledge of applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.Proficient in commonly used office software packages.
